Not going to argue about this again there was a thread about it a while ago. To some up: I'm all for a TV license as it funds an advert free BBC and programs like Top Gear, The Office, Doctor Who, Faulty Towers, Monty Python, Blackadder and hundreds of others shows that wouldn't have been made if the funding was ratings based. 🙂

Translation: TV in Britain is crap, and none of it would be made if the channels relied on advertising based on ratings... so instead i happily pay money to queen and country so i can watch non-british tv anyways.

We have to buy a tv license. You cant buy a tv without one. If your receive a signal radio or tv you got to buy one. But once you buy one and you stop paying then your on the record then the inspectors comes around and they send you court orders. The guy who never paid for one is not on any records so they don't know of him. What we normally do is use a friends license to buy a tv.

They say the money go towards to support of the public broadcaster but why do I have to pay for Satellite and buy a tv license? Half the shyt they show on the public ones is in a different language. We have 9 official languages. Imagine watching a football game in 9 different languages. Every 10 minutes a different commentator. Thank God we got mugs playing football here so i dont have to sit and watch that shyt

Our TV Licenses fund the BBC, so IMO it's worth it, everyone I know who watches live TV has one.

Apparently they have vans that drive around using some kind of equipment to check I don't know the ins and outs of it. That being said I don't abide by the law because I think I'm going to get caught if I don't...

Also every residence who doesn't have a TV license gets bombarded with letters about how they need one.

But what about the 80 yr old lady next door that dont have a tv but the signal still travels through her home?

well if they have no TV....
i went a few years without a TV before so i'm sure there are plenty of home owners out there who don't have one.
but like most licenses, its more about having the excuse to extort money than it is anything else.

I don't have a TV license as I don't require one, I just informed them online, it took 5 minutes. I've never received a letter.

They cant do that here because they will get jacked or beaten senseless. but most of them will pick up prostitutes in the vans and not bother bout anything else. Thats the norm here. If your working for the government your mandate is to do anything but your real job.

They wont bother with the townships cause they will need about 20 cops armed with battering rams and machine guns to do the homes over there. In the squatter camps every 2nd home got a satellite dish on the roof with a BMW parked in the garage

Ah. Yeah we have very few of those problems, a police officer knocking in doors won't really have any problems other than chavs swearing at them and getting arrested...

Our communities are experts in starting riots. All it needs is a government official arguing with a resident saying they must pay for something. 30 000 people armed with rocks and bottles ready for action under 5 minutes
