advertising $$$ is based on number of viewers, less viewers (due to xmas shopping/travel/whatever) = less money = wait until Feb to release more TV shows.

SUCH an outdated and non working model nowadays, who the hell watches anything live if the have a comparable way to stream it?
 
In The UK, our "travelling" involves driving to where our families live, takes a few hours one day, driving back again takes a few hours one day, it doesn't take weeks meaning we have to stop our TV programmes. So yeah it's cultural.

For someone so dependent on American TV, you have very little idea about how the US actually works...

So true, I never realised just how different America is to europe. Our countries seem to do almost everything differently.
