what an idiotic notion....besides the fact there remains no legitimate data on the effects of second hand smoke--the widely-repeated FDA study being thrown out by court due to faulty, and sometimes doctored data.

Of course, the validity of such studies matter little to the sheep that want to preach about perceived evils that they don't understand.

Is it good to breath in smoke?

Yes or no?

Second hand smoke - is it still smoke?

No studies needed.

They might die, but at least they won't die from clogged arteries.

Let me know when the sarcasm is thick enough that your meter trips.

QFT, I eat a ton of fast food and I can assure you if fast food was banned I would end up eating less healthy. When I make my own food, no fast food place can touch my creations for level of artery clogging goodness. 😀

No Fast Food = people making their own at home

Really? I eat a ton of fast food and I can assure you if fast food was banned I would end up eating less healthy. When I make my own food, no fast food place can touch my creations for level of artery clogging goodness.

that's terrible

As anti-smoking as I am, I would never want it outlawed. Just keep it out of my breathing air as much as possible. Especially next to building entrances/windows.

We all know its stupid......lighting something and putting it in your mouth, then inhaling the burning hydrocarbons. Real smart.

Unfortunately however there are a few numbskulls out there who just dont get it for some reason or other. Everything else is illegal, so why cant we finally put the nail in this coffin for good? No more nasty smoke and cigarette butts. Works for me!

We can call it Felix's Law or something.

Man, you're an asshole.

people like you are the reason people like me smoke, just cause it annoys you, you make us want to do it.

or perhaps it the nicotine addiction you choose

If by terrible you mean terribly delicious, then yes, yes it is...

meh

me and the GF are pretty hardcore foodies, but even when we "lay it on" while cooking at home it's nowhere near as unhealthy as eating out

the amount of butter/oil/grease used when eating out is ridiculous

As much as I hate smokers, I smoked for ~8 years, I think the government should back off, they're already too controlling. Sure tax the hell out of it but make marijuana legal and tax it too. Then save millions of dollars trying to stop it from being imported. Yay I solved all our problems! Big brother just needs to back the fuck up.

I do agree with the no smoking inside thing though, recently enacted around here and I love it. No need to worry about smokers inside any business. I can finally go out to bars and not come home smelling like an ashtray.

Nah, I don't think anyone would disagree with that. My point, is that the first major FDA study claims that second-hand smoke is more dangerous than the smoke inhaled by the smoker, by virtue of it being unfiltered.

Well, to a mindless simpleton, this kind of argument sounds plausible. A little thinking, then you realize how stupid it is.

First, how much smoke is the smoker inhaling, directly, vs how much a bystander is exposed to after smoke particles are naturally diffused? A huge fraction of the amount.

Second, the evil poisons and tar and such present in the smoke is going to be naturally filtered as it diffuses anyway.

It's the claims in such studies that are ridiculous, and the fact that the data was fudged beyond belief--especially when laymen repeat them as if they are fact.

But don't shoot the messenger. Courts invalidated that FDA study for second-hand smoke.

Is second hand smoke bad? yeah, I'd think so; but so is walking down a city street and inhaling all the vehicle exhaust. Is that worse than second-hand smoke? Probably.

Just stop being so naive.

The high price of cigarettes is making more young people look to other drugs. Alcohol is far less expensive a high than nicotine, at this point.

Eventually the high cost and public opinion will cut the number of smokers to a low enough level that it would be relatively easy to grandfather in people of a certain age, and prohibit it for those below that age.

This thread is so retarded.

I hate cigarettes, and I can't stand being around people who smoke, but really? Making it illegal?

then you don't eat unhealthy foods, French Fries made at home in a deep fryer aren't magically healthier simply because you made them yourself. If anything my home made fries are probably worse because I double fry them to make them extra crispy. And any preservatives some fast food places uses that are extra bad for you would be outweighed by the fact when I eat at home it's larger portions.

^^^^^

Good. And tell your friends to stay away too. For some reason everyone keeps moving here bringing all their stupid ideas like income tax and seatbelt laws.

Fark that.

I just imagine QueBert looks exactly like his avatar. Big fat old bald and kind of dumb in the way all older people get when they fail at learning new things.

I'm not big at all, I actually don't look my age, I'm 35 and still get carded everywhere I go. And I'm more than capable at learning new things. If I was as dumb as you're assuming, I would think because I make my own Fries at home I'm eating healthier because Jack In The Box didn't make them.

Based on your other posts in the Mac section or whatever about being "stuck in your ways" I assumed you were like 50.

So amirite about the others? Overweight and bald? :awe:

By the way, stop eating fries. They are awesomely tasty but they should sparingly consumed like icecream.

No longer stuck in my ways, I ditched my CRT for an LCD and I only do shit in a CMD/Terminal window half as much

I'm slightly Overweight but nothing serious, bald? nah Ihave too much fucking hair, I gotta get it cut once a month or I look like a homeless caveman.

I eat tons of fries, but never really touch Ice Cream 😉

Hopefully never. That would be a step in the completely wrong direction.

I don't smoke cigarettes, but I don't care if people do.

Edit: I also find it quite amusing that almost everyone in this thread is like, "Cigarettes? Illegal? OMGWTFBBQ!"

Yet if the discussion was about green cigarettes(marijuana), the split would be much more even. There really is fundamentally very little difference, when it comes down to it. Both alter your state of consciousness, for better or worse.
