I was in the left lane of a 2-lane highway, doing about 75. I was only in the left lane because I was starting an epic passing adventure of a dual-trailer semi. I was passing this truck at a reasonable clip. I wasn't flying by him, but I was certainly going faster than him. I would have passed him entirely in 15 seconds or so.

That's when some douchebag comes flying up behind me (had to be doing 90, based on how sudden he had to brake behind me), and starts flashing his lights at me (this was at night, mind you).

If you want to talk about inciting road rage... hell, you don't need to look at the people that want to go faster than you. Because I got SO pissed that someone would have the nerve to do that to me. F-you if I'm not going fast enough for your needs. You can pass me in the far-left lane if you want (the ditch). But I'm not speeding up to 90, just so you can pass myself and this truck 5 seconds sooner.

So I tapped by brakes to let him know to get off my ass. He did, a little. And then when I was finally able to pass the semi on my right and got back into the right lane, the idiot behind me predictably shot past me at what seemed like 100.

You speed demon jerkoffs need to come to a comprimise on the roads. Yeah, I'll get over if I can and let you go about your business. But if I'm already currently passing someone else, and you feel the need to have to pass them faster than I'm doing, just pull over and take a nap. You need it.

The lane is for LEGAL passing.. If you are passing a vehicle that is going at or above the speed limit then it is not a legal pass.

Aww that's cute, ya'll have 65mph speed limits :) 70mph here with a "reality" limit of about 75-80.

If i am in the far left lane, i would move over as soon as I saw a car approaching in my rear mirror, no need for flashing high beams - I have never seen this flashing of high beams.

And if someone flashes me, waves their hands, or tailgates I will slow down to exactly the speed limit.

I'm sure everyone in this thread has already explained to you why you're an asshole, so I'll just say that you're an asshole.

This is why I try to pass vehicles quicker if I see someone behind me that's going faster than me. I won't go from 70 to 90, but I'll jump it up a bit :). I know I'd appreciate the same if someone was going 66 passing someone going 65 when I was approaching going 70.

I almost always get on th highway, move left, and stay there until I need to get off... it does not matter what is happening in the lanes to my right. I stay there to avoid the churn that happens at on and off ramps. No need to worry about traffic moving left and right to get on or off.

Your the type of ass i'd throw my entire cup of coffee on your window

I think that staying in the left lane when faster traffic is approaching is much more dangerous than driving above the speed limit.

I agree; it can be compared to fueling road rage.

Even before I move to the left preparing to pass I'd check the rearview mirrors to see how traffic is like. If there's a vehicle moving up at a noticeably faster pace than I am (hard to judge speed over the rearview but if you can make that distinction then it means he's going at a good pace faster than yourself) then I'd let him pass me and the vehicle infront of me before I move to the left.

Or if I'm already in the left in the middle of a pass I'd pick it up a tad more.

I also, as the other poster mentioned, would prefer to use your vehicle as a "radar detector" than my own, thanks!

On a side note, so many people on the right lane are so brain dead when it comes to other vehicles on the right merging into his own lane. No need to drive parallel, or half car space infront or behind the merger. People like this I stay the hell away from. Same with those who drive but have a map or some form of reading material on the wheel with the interior night light on. These people I either want to stay behind them, or stay way way infront of them.

BTW, I'm no angel either. I, back in the days, used to be the kid you'd see weaving in and out of traffic, and doing 160-180km/h on the left lane while everybody else does 120-130. Now? Sometimes I even go below the limit on highways and simply cruise. Pretty relaxing actually.

Also, if you're going to be a badass and hit the road with an attitude (whether you're the instigator or part of the problem) be prepared to back yourself up. Don't be a weany in an eThug costume. You'll be called out.

He's got to be trolling. Otherwise people would have ran him off the road by now.

If I'm going my usual 9MPH over, no, I will not move over.

It's only happened to me once, though...

People that don't move over as you approach them in the left lane need to be taken out back and beaten with a connecting rod. I shouldn't have to get within two inches of your ass and have to disengage my cruise control for you to get the message that I'm going faster than you.

Here in CA (SF Bay Area), normally, everyone is going at 80+ in the left most lane and ~75 in the second left-most lane (unless there is traffic). When i need to pass someone and they wont move over to the right lane, I just go around them on the right but mostly, people will move over themselves (occasionally, they will speed up too :p even when going 80mph)

we follow the "normal rule" ;) of speeding: (that i have observed and is pretty common during non-peak times)
Right-most lane = speed limit
Second Right-most = speed limit + 5
Second left-most = speed limit + 10
Left Most = speed limit + 15

Also, I have noticed that most cops dont stop you if you are ~75 or less. Around 80, its a 50-50 chance and above 80, your chances drop drastically. YMMV

Slow down, or YOU pass me if YOU are in a hurry. I am content just driving to work.

If people are passing you on your right you are creating a dangerous environment, and in several states it's illegal regardless of your current speed. You can get ticketed for driving too slow, even though you are doing the speed limit.

I'm also content with calling 911 and reporting that you are going on a road rage fit and letting the cops pay a visit to you just to be an ass like you're being.

I move over for someone if I am in the left lane - even if they are speeding. I don't think it is really a good idea to be coasting along in the left lane anyway. Heavier traffic would be an exception, of course.

I also expect people to move over if I am going over the limit. Sorry if you have something to prove and feel the need to stay in the lane and slow down, etc. Get over it. Pretty much everyone here has gone over the speed limit in their life and hasn't thought twice about it when it was them.

So it's ok for you not to move over, yet if you come upon someone slower in the left lane they better move??????

This is what I tend to have a problem with. I like to do the same thing as well, but... these people rarely acknowledge that I'm making a concession for them and do something such as speed up a tiny bit so I can pull over without having to slow down. So in other words, it ends up becoming a game: do I slow down or make them slow down? If they're too close for me to pull over, I usually turn on my turn signal to show, "hey, I'd like to move over there" but that doesn't seem to make a difference.
