It sounds like a cult has arisen in AMD, a cult that is living in yesteryear, believes in its own supremacy in denial of the stunningly obvious facts.
He's not wrong, and its not hard to figure out the origin of said culture either.

here i gotta disagree
this is *AMD's*
culture, not ATi's
i believe ATi would have had r600 out the door in January IF they weren't 'acquired'
... a so-so competitor to the 8800 series .. win-some, lose-some
AMD wanted to *tinker* with it ... and evidently *has been* tinkering with it ...
we have a hybrid GPU coming
--whether "gamers" think it is *worth the wait* remains to be seen
[
doubtful]
i think AMD was *dead wrong* no matter *how spectacular* their 'family' turns out to be
they broke the *number one* [or 2] Rule of business - TWICE ... with intel and now with nvidia
--if you have *something worthwhile* get it out to the buyers and fans
it is better than *nothing*
i think if they had *any sense* they could always have tinkered with r600's refresh and just made r600 a half-hearted launch
i don't think they have any brains left at the top

--they are mired back in '05 when they did and they *ruled*
i am *hoping* i am wrong and all of their schemes turn out to be "brilliant marketing"
- but i doubt it ... nothing shows it
i am *prepared* to be extremely disappointed with r600
--and still *hoping* for a miracle
at any rate the ^above^ is *my
analysis*
i think we will know
right away ... these journalists will not be allowed to break NDA but we will get their *impressions* of the r600 family and what they think of it ... next week
read between their lines
