Sound and physics are the buzzwords for AMD's R600

DAAMIT'S R600 SIMPLY can't be called a GPU anymore. GPU stands for Graphics Processing Unit, while R600 can be shortly described as GSPPU - Graphics, Sound and Physics Processing Unit.

It seems now that the System-on-a-Chip concept implemented in R600 was far beyond anything Graphzilla's rider Jen-Hsun ever talked about, and the roar of angry beast will be heard in city of Satan Clara.

We hear that Sound Physics has been buzzed for quite some time, and we are massaging our contacts to bring you as much detail as possible. It seems that R600 GPU will be less CPU-bound than it has been in the past, since a lot more parts of the scene will be calculated and rendered on the GPU itself.

R600 combines graphics with audio and physics process in a whole another way, and those 64 vect5D shader pipelines yield in 320 scalar units total, directly comparable to Nvidia's 128 scalar ones. Now, 128 scalar units at 1.35 GHz is still a tad more efficient that ATi's own 320 at 740 MHz, but ATi's pipeline is more complex than it was previously thought.

Who'd ahev thought that ATI would overtake Nvidia in a race to multi-purpose GPU and make consoles of today with their PowerPC CPUs look so 1990s? Perhaps R600 was really worth the wait after all.

the only word not mentioned is *performance*

i want to see that it was worth the wait

AMD thinks so ... and it is their future of THEIR gfx cards

maybe

who knows

it is theInq

:D

but now you can see *why* the wait

Kyle should shut his mouth. His team sux at reviewing cards, that 8600GTS review is so bogus.

Its already understood that the R600XT is going to perform on par with the GTX, just that the price of the XT is rumoured at $399.

There's no need to be quite so high & mighty and prickly about his comment ;)

Truth be told, you DO often overemphasize things :Q

;)

too bad

his comment was stupid ... like yours

a personal insult with nothing to add to the thread

You realise that you personally insulted him with that arrogant and sneering comment above, that also contributed nothing to this thread about the r600 NDA? You also personally insulted me at several points, and again, that added nothing to this thread.

That's some fine hypocritical behaviour right there ;)

To think that all i did was suggest you calmed down and behaved in a civil fashion...You call me a troll (again with the personal insults that have nothing to do with this thread!), but you're the one who seems incapable of controlling your emotions on this board.

Wanna bet if Kyle gets some money from AMD he changes opinion faster than you can say "FANBOY" ? What I find funny is the zealous HOCP fans always there to defend his "reviews"... Maybe they are paid too

Anyway, on the subject, I think AMD is going for a longshot here... If R600 performs on par with the 8800GTX I really couldnt care less if it has sound or physics or cooks my dinner, sounds like they are trying to cover the lack of performance with useless stuff, like Nvidia did when they saw the 7900 series getting beaten across the board... "But they are cool and quiet" yeah right, like I care

I for one have had enough of Apoppin ruining any sort of meaningful discussion about anything related to AMD or Nvidia's future products. I've started a thread in Forum Issues, I suggest anyone else who is sick of his behavior post in there as well.

anyhoo.....I can't stand HOCP anymore either, as anyone raising absoluteley anything about any reviews/opinions from the Reviewers is shot down once Kyle has his final say. and it if you don't like it....you get the mandatory, "Its Kyle's site, he can do/say whatever he wants." (regardless if its right or wrong)

And if he doesn't have the card, no way he should made comments on power draw and further speculate he card may dissapoint.

I would like to think the NDA will be up sometime next week as well. Remember, Intel will be cutting prices on the 2nnd and no way AMD/ATi can go through the week outside of the marketing world.

What I'm anxious to hear confirmation on is if the 1GB version will be GDDR4 and what die size. If GDRR4 and .65u @ $500---- I am in for sure.

I trust Kyle much more than I would trust the INQ. I'd trust any used car salesman more than I'd trust the INQ.

BTW, today was AMD earnings. Did any investor ask AMD for details on their R600 launch in the CC?

Please remove the [ H ] (without spaces) format from the quote or everything turns black:p

I think you should trust the INQ more... At least the INQ has a chance of being right - they arent paid to spread rumors I think

Which is why I got banned after making about 5 posts there... All because I said the truth about their reviews, just like I got banned from nvnews for saying the x1800 would be better than the 7800gtx... Yay for nice, unbiased moderators

I agree. Frankly his site is just pure garbage. I feel like there is more whacky news tidbits than actual tech substance.

I remember years ago Kyle posted some link to an article and made some mean remark about the African women in national geographic and their "banana" shaped breasts. Just some out of place remark that was just so out of line and didnt belong on a tech site. I even emailed the guy and I got the same lame response to the effect of Its my site, free speech, deal with it.

Can someone find the SM3.0 3dmark scores of the 8600GTS? I wanna compare the scores to those leaked 2600XT benches.

My X1900XTX kills the 2600XT according to the Hard Spell benches.

Agreed. IF this is true, this generation's midrange is extremely disappointing, from both companies...

well seems like you have quite the following. no worries, i will just get my video hardware news from other forums instead of this one.

oh noes ... please don't go

i am personally crushed that we will miss your potentially enlightening posts

and i don't believe i have any following ... i have been on these forums for 7 years and continuously in Video for the past 3 ... at least ...

i have to say, for the regulars here ... you are ALL a stand-up decent bunch of guys

we all have our *quirks* and we often disagree and even fire insults when we feel offended

but we're still family ... an extended cyber-family of usually genuinely helpful guys

and in our heated debates often drop the crumbs of Truth and much knowledge and info can be found here ... far beyond 'articles' ... this place - with all its faults - is unique and overall a "plus" to ATF
[barely ... but not bad for "unmoderated"]

as to r600 ... yeah .. . i was furious with AMD for dropping the ball and then releasing a bunch of fud to cover their delay.

But i *get it* ... they are really PROUD sobs ... they believe in their company and really believe they have something *spectacular* to offer with the family launch

Evidently r600 has undergone a *transformation* [in AMD's opinion] ... one that will *shock* us with their cleverness, innovation AND "value"

that remains to be seen

i am withholding judgment until r600 launches

===========

in the meantime - to those of you i have offended, i am sorry for doing so ... i know you are *real* people .... i am too ... if we can treat *each other* with more respect ... perhaps we will get along even better ...

... better than survival ...

--and we might learn even more with less "fluff" to sift thru and less time wasted on "personal crap" to debate

lets try ... i will

if the people here want you to stay and enjoy what you contribute to the threads then so be it.

i think your posts are a diarrhea of rambling thoughts, it's not worth the effort to find the one or two relevant sentences that are lost in the endless sea of emoticons and italicized words. i believe you really destroy any meaningful discussion because of your hyper-enthusiasm. i understand that maybe video cards and technology is all you have to live for, but it isn't like that for us normal people. there was once a time, many years ago, when we could have meaningful discussion here but clearly that ship has sailed.
