I just bought a loaf of Meijer's wheat bread for sandwiches. $1.99 for their better line. They still have the cheaper line at 97 cents for a loaf.

I normally do with my bread machine, with the holidays i just did not have time so bread was on my shopping list today. i was not expecting $3.50 for a loaf damn thats a gallon of gas.

I remember when I was a kid and gas was .25 cents a gallon a loaf of bread was .35 cents a loaf so that really doesn't seem all that shocking.

We were at Winco last night. Wonder Bread brand hamburger buns...$3.10. Bayview house brand...$0.98.
Surprisingly, milk has come down in price a bit. A couple of weeks ago, a gallon of house brand 2% was about $3.10, last night, $2.75.

You're doing it wrong. I'm usually buying bread for ~$0.99 - $1.89 depending on the sale. And we're usually buying the more expensive multigrain/whole grain breads made without HFCS.

For all of you people complaining, have you ever tried to make bread without machines? It's a workout and takes a long time for the entire process. You'll see that it is worth the $5 for a decent loaf.

Pro tip: making bread in your kitchen aid is a good way to kill it. If you do try it just do 1 loaf and stick with the low speeds. Or you can spend $500+ and buy an electrolux mixer.

Additional note: prices are going to go higher because we're in a period of high inflation, regardless of what the fed says and it doesn't look like its going to stop anytime in the near future.

I used to make bread all the time, and I've never even seen a bread machine operate. It isn't that hard. Probably the biggest drawback is mess, but it isn't that big a deal. I really should start making bread again...

holy shit. wondera, rainbow, Mrs Baird's, Roman meal are all $3.49 a loaf! im talking major grocery stores like kroger and safeway not a convenience store.

i got the cheap kroger bread that was 10/10. and taste just as good just as dense as wondera and rainbow.

It is $4.99 a loaf for the cheapest white bread here. We buy decent whole grain bread 2 loafs for like $11 at Costco and thats a good deal. Here being Maui.

i have chron's, i cant do the rye bread thing even though i do like it. especially toased. white bread is already processed, so its easy for my guts to absorb the little nutrients in them. it doesnt bother me much.. i just buy the italian style white bread. its good too.

i always thought the plastic wrap on a loaf a bread costs more then the bread itself...
