when did a freaking loaf of bread hit the $3.50 mark??

OutHouse

Lifer
holy shit. wondera, rainbow, Mrs Baird's, Roman meal are all $3.49 a loaf! im talking major grocery stores like kroger and safeway not a convenience store.

its freaking white bread for samiches for christ sake, not the fancy oat & 7 grain hippie shit.

i got the cheap kroger bread that was 10/10. and taste just as good just as dense as wondera and rainbow.

Shop around, if you get a premium brand like PF it's gonna be that. Merita is around $2.39 around here, decent bread at a fair price..

I don't buy the cheap shit, but I noticed rye took a big jump awhile back. It's usually ~$3 a loaf. I have no idea what white bread is. I'd rather have no bread than white bread.

funny thing is, Rye bread is what the poorest of the poor people used to eat since medieval times till recent years. i guess perhaps its not as popular and perhaps why it costs so much?

but yeah, white bread is the gay. how can anyone eat that flavorless junk?

That's my guess. It seems like it's used as a specialty bread for party sandwiches, and stuff like that. I don't know anyone else that uses it as a staple bread. I got hooked on it when I was a kid. I'd get the occasional PBJ on rye to take to school, and it improved the sandwich by 1000%. We always had white bread, and I guess I got rye when the white ran out. I'd have preferred rye all the time.

If it's only single wrapped, it's no good anyway. Must be wrapped twice or baked fresh to be good enough.

There's almost always at least one local grocery each week advertising BOGO on good bread. I never play full retail.

My favorite bread, Orowheat Country White, is in the $4.25-$5.00 price range at most local grocery stores. Just 3-4 years ago, it was less than $2.50.

Outlet stores will provide value if you do not like store generics

yes that is true. there is a huge wondra bakery in denver and there are outlet stores. the thing is they are like 25 miles from me and you have to get there early in the morning to make the 50 mile roundtrip for bread remotely worth while.

I have paid $4.29 for a loaf of my brownberry oat nut...when i was working of course....🙁

White bread is for the birds ....😛

20oz loaf of Shop-Rite round top or Sandwich is $1.00 every week. Just as good as Wonder, Sunbeam or any other national brand white bread.
