Actually, diesel is much higher than gas. Also, I had read (not confirmed) that South America was having diesel production problems so the US is shipping diesel to them.:colbert:

I typically do the shopping in the house and can vouch that food has indeed skyrocketed. It's one of the reasons that the average US worker has negative real wages over the last 11 to 12 years.

Oh, and I typically buy the 10 for $10 (i.e. $1.00 each) stuff at Kroger (wheat and white).

I can't remember the last time I bought bread. Or been to the supermarket for that matter. I got lazier and lazier living on my own and ate out more and more. I should probably go do the store and buy some real food, make something good and proper. I probably won't though.

It's Watsonville sourdough or bust for me. It does cost 3.50 -4.30 a loaf but it's fucking worth it. I feel bad for all the people that live in areas where sourdough sucks(ie anywhere not in the sf bay area)

holy shit. wondera, rainbow, Mrs Baird's, Roman meal are all $3.49 a loaf! im talking major grocery stores like kroger and safeway not a convenience store.

i got the cheap kroger bread that was 10/10. and taste just as good just as dense as wondera and rainbow.

Bread has been $4 a long time here.

Milk over $7 and heading to $10 gal

Gas still well over $3 here and Diesel over $4 even though most of the country dropped under $3 for gas.

Maybe your bread comes from Chicago???
 
People all over are starting to apply pressure on Homeowners Associations to allow gardening.

People need to be self sufficient again.

Why are HOA/CSA so against gardening?

My sister-in-law's HOA fined her for having a tomato plant on her deck. It was in a beautiful pot but it wasn't on the approved list and they refused to add it to the approved list.

Personally, I think a lot of this nonsense will end. With the economy as bad as it is, people are going to a. not be able to afford HOA dues and b. gardens will become the norm anywhere that people can grow some veggies or fruits because the price of food is going up, up, up and isn't likely to come down. I think there will be a lot of pressure put on HOA's to lift those kinds of restrictions.

In Michigan, there is a "right to farm" law built into the state constitution. We had several families in Ann Arbor, Auburn Hills, Rochester Hills, and even one guy in West Bloomfield that have used it to successfully keep chickens in otherwise covenanted communities.

Hahahahahaha WTF?? Are you getting the milk straight from Rahm's nipples? Milk is $5 tops all day long Chicago metro. $3 on a good day and $2 if you're savvy.

~$4.50 for a gallon of whole where I used to live in NH - out here it's ~$2.50. Produce is also about 25% what it used to cost...huge variance depending on the region.

I don't know where Dave lives, though.

You people do the same thing with gas.

It's 40 to 60 cents a gallon higher in the city that burbs.

Guys, I hate to break the news to you, but in rural America, walmart is just about the only place to shop. The town I live in has a Brookshire brothers and a walmart.

HEB went out of business in my town

Walmart does comp ads

Brookshire brothers only does comp ads on meat

What am I supposed to do, drive 60 - 100 miles to shop somewhere besides walmart? Its not that I enjoy shopping at walmart, its the only place around here to buy food.

My wife and I, we get sales papers mailed to us and we print sales papers off the internet. From there we price comparison shop at the local walmart.
 
I dunno here in central NJ gas is damn cheap compared to a lot of other places. Bread isn't too bad either. Go us!
