Then you have not really played Crysis 1 on PC the way it's talked about when people claim it is the best looking game ever and it is the best looking game ever IMO modded at leased.

No, I'm sure he probably has.

Like I said, there are multiple games that have surpassed Crysis in the graphics department already. Quite frankly I'm sick of people who are still living in 2007 and say "NUH-UH CRYSIS IS STILL THE BEST LOOKING GAME OUT THERE BRO."

Having beat Crysis, Battlefield 3, and The Witcher 2, I can confidently say that the latter two are better-looking than the first. (I would also say Metro 2033, but that can be hard to argue, because you're comparing outdoor tropical environments to underground metro environments.)

Is Crysis still a good-looking game? Absolutely. Is it still #1? Nope. I think the reason why some people are so convinced otherwise is because it made such a huge impact when it released, and somehow that impression of "best-looking game ever" hasn't left them yet.

If you're modding Crysis, however, then it's a different story; and yes, it might rank up there as the best-looking game there is. But I'm comparing games totally vanilla. And vanilla Crysis is, believe it or not, starting to look a little dated now.

When BF3 and The Witcher 2 come out with "SN!PER'S ULTRA-HD REALISTIC FX MODS", then it would probably be a more fair comparison.

That is kinda why I said Crysis "Modded at leased" but ya I would never say and did not say that Vanilla Crysis is the best looking game modded it is up for debate though but for sure one in the top three. Yes I liked the Witcher 2 art direction as well but I liked the game play of the first one better for some reason but it sucks that any half decent rig can maxes out the Witcher 2 but when you put on the Uber sampling it all goes down hill. Also good luck waiting for the "mods" to come out for BF3 Like EA and Orgins would allow the users that much control.

Hi folks. Recently, I started playing Crysis (2007) again. And wow.. I'm surprised (again) with the level of visuals this game from 2007 provides. Without any mods, at 2560x1600 resolution with everything at very high (good'ol DX10) and 4xMSAA + 4xTrSSAA, this game STILL looks like a visual masterpiece. Only other game I can think of that may be in the same league in term of visual quality is Metro 2033.

Have you actually played BF3 with anything like those settings, it is a masterpeice. I wouldn't say it looks 4-5 years newer but in terms of pure detail/textures/lighting it wins hands down.

Dang, Skyrim actually look good !
With it being priced at 35$ ub bestbuy I am thinking of finally buying one.
Would a 6870 be enough to play this gorgeous modded Skyrim at 1080p ?

It should because Bethesda have really fixed up most of the performance optimization issues skyrim had when it released I would even go as far as to saying that Skyrim is now a well optimized game and it runs very well maxed out on my "humble" gaming PC which is allot more than I can say for the game when it first came out.

OP, play Witcher 2. IMO it's surpassed Crysis in terms of graphics.
Understood. I've never got around to play Witcher series for some reason. I'll definitely give Witcher 2 a go.

Yes. I regularly play BF3 with my GTX 690 Quad-SLI.

Hehe... I know what you mean. There's a reason why I said "Sometimes, I can't believe I'm still talking & praising about the game from 2007 in terms of visuals." in the original post.

I can't say anything regarding Witch 2. Because I have not played it.
However, I personally think Crysis is better looking game compared to BF3. I am sure BF3 being DX11 native rendering path, it is in almost every way superior to Crysis in terms of technology. But why does this ancient game called Crysis from 2007 is better looking to me ? I have no idea. I must be missing something. (no pun intended)

FWIW, threre are about 75 screenshots of Crysis in this folder.

These are the Crysis screenshots from gamers. I've randomly gathered them from various forums.

Crysis is too shiny IMO. It's like...fake-ish looking. Hard for me to put it. BF3 looks more raw and gritty, like near photo realistic sometimes.

I guess it's the difference between Star Trek where everything is glossy and clean and Star Wars where everything has grit and looks well used.

wow I think just the opposite as Crysis made every effort to look as real as possible at the time. heck don't you remember when Crytek showed the real locations compared to in game graphics. you had to look closely at some of those pics to know which was which.

everything has too much glare, too much gloss, reflections are unrealistic. That's my opinion...foliage had too many shiny parts.

Skyrim did foliage better

Crysis set the bar 5 years ago and has only recently been equaled by a handful of games.

The problem is that no one except those with a super high end PC could play it decently 5 years ago.

This is what makes Rage for PC pretty good even though it doesn't have the absolute best graphics. It can run at 60fps on a 5 year old PC and still look great.

It's alright; when you start comparing games that closely, you begin nit-picking things like texture quality, models, lighting, and overall artistic direction.

Crysis and Witcher 2 are extremely close in terms of realistic flora, however I think Witcher 2's feels a little more "nuanced" somehow. Witcher 2 also has more attractive lighting IMO, but it also has kind of a floaty, fantasy-feel to it, whereas Crysis aims for straight realism.

Crysis's bushes and trees maybe look a little better overall than BF3, but I think BF3 has much better textures.

Oh man... I have to agree. Stop everything you're doing and just download the demo for Trine 2. Your eyes are guaranteed to jizz rainbows. You can't imagine just how gorgeous that game is until you actually play it. :)

lol, your idea of looking great must be different from mine. RAGE has some decent looking vistas and character models but everything else is ass ugly low res and static 2D garbage. and what is insulting is having to see that garbage actually have to stream in each time you look around.

Here's some shots I took of Witcher 2. Like I said, some of the lighting is absolutely beautiful.

i went back and tried to play Crysis, but no way it looks better than BF3 or Crysis 2 (with high rez textures, DX11, and mods) or even Witcher 2 (which is drop dead gorgeous). Sorry man, don't know what u're talking about!

IDTech 5 is actually a beast of an engine completely let down by hardware abstraction.
