I make a little under $40k. Not bad considering I don't have a degree. I'm happy enough with it for now.

Any idea what that translates into U.S. incomes/purchase power?

It's around 40K/year after taxes and pension removed and we have a 25% sales tax, so with that deducted it's around '32K'/year (if US sales taxes are 0%). Then I only have to pay rent and living costs, no student loans, health care insurance etc.

Dunno if that's an answer to your question.

I'm a SharePoint guy too. Sounds like you might be in house? I'm a dev/architect consultant.

Yep, I'm in house. I've debated the consulting side for quite some time and can never seem to push myself to do it. With my total comp package here, it would be tough for a consulting position to come out ahead if you consider the hours, stress, etc.

Good enough. The bolded can break you. Sales tax for me is 7%.

What would a average 1500 sq ft house run you there? May not be an easy answer. In my state, maybe starting at $75K. In N.Y or California, sky's the limit.

to the SP guys in here. I'm just getting into the field - saw an opening in my company and took it...but it was a lateral move, salary wise. What is the earning potential for someone just getting into the field, but has 7+ yrs experience in software dev and IT?

Responded to your PM.

i would say it tops out at around $150k if full time.
$80-120/hr if consulting.

You're probably not going to get $150K as a Sharepoint admin/developer/architect working for any company unless you're in management. You can get that in consulting, however.

Well, FWIW, I just applied for a PM position so that may be the end of my Sharepoint days. :D

well, if it doesn't work out, you will always have sp to fall back on, because the demand is just so high.

i put up my resume on dice last week, and my phone has been ringing non-stop ever since.

Just curious based on the location you have listed in you profile...do you commute between NJ/CT for work?
