What's the national average salary? Like 30k or something? AT is averaging 80-100k. Yet I don't know how many times I look in the hot deals forum and someone's like "man this was such a good deal at $39.99 but the $6 shipping kills it."

lol... I just bought a $950 jacket (paid $850), have a bunch of expensive clothes, and still have beaucoup savings. Buy selectively, guilt trip and mentally rape youself everytime you spend a lot of money or waste it, double guess all purchases, and you'll be a step closer to being loaded:).

My last contract I was on a day rate of £485 - Senior Project Manager delivering significant business & technical change into a core mortgage platform for a leading financial organisation (as part of a £30m programme).

However, I'm a permie now...

I am waiting to start a new job which will be the same salary, more hours, more opportunities for overtime, and shift work differentials. They said I could hit as high as 80k if I take lot of extra shifts. Can't wait to start.

But I can't complain, I'm way ahead of most people my age.

I was making a hair over $38k at my last job, but I had to quit because it was driving me insane. Now I'm making $12 an hour while I consider going back to school for an advanced degree.

Live in Portland, OR. I do database work for non-profits.

probably wouldn't cover COL increase. housing in Pittsburgh is %40 that of SF or NYC.

can't wait to move there myself.

In what world is paying 40% more for housing enough to off-set getting double the income?

This. I end up offsetting the costs of new toys by selling the old toys. Paying retail is for poor people.

I'm part of the 98%. 1% rich, 1% jobless hippies, 98% working stiff trying to get a leg up in a world with too many craptastic jobs. I have a degree in political science and a college diploma in broadcast journalism. Tons of jobs our there, just none with a decent wage, or entry level in my field. I'm probably pushing 60hr a week with job plus my volunteer work at the local cable station to get experience.

Mr. Mugabe, it is such an honor to have a leader of your caliber on our lowly forums.

pittsburgh is NYC x 0.40, i.e. less than half as expensive.

a 1200 sqft 2br apartment with a view of the pittsburgh skyline and gym/pool/garage is <$1200

or you can find a nice 1br around the colleges for <$600

compare to $3000 for a 1br in manhattan
