I found Calc 2 kind of boring, especially solids of rotation. Zzzzzz

Solids of rotation was calc 1 for me. Calc 2 covered linear algebra, 3d differentiation, and everything up to 3d integration.

Our Calc 4 is div, curl, and some differential equations.

we did all that in calc 3

I don't know, and I really don't care. I was in Tag in grade school, but it was too boring and I disrupted the "smarter" kids. I think I am pretty smart about certain things, and I could probably do anything I put my mind to. I just really have a hard time focussing on one thing. My mind races around alot, and I really get bored fast. Oh yeah, my wife was a super model until she gained 40 pounds, and I looked like Arnold before I gained 40;)

Weird.

Here's the calc course list for our school:

Calculus I (Prerequisite: MA 1313 and MA 1323 or equivalent). Three hours lecture. Analytic geometry; functions; limits; continuity; derivatives of algebraic functions; applications of the derivative.

Calculus II (Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in MA 1713). Three hours lecture. Antidifferentiation; the definite integral; applications of the definite integral; differentiation and integration of transcendental functions.

Calculus III (Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in MA 1723). Three hours lecture. Further methods of integration; polar coordinates; vectors; infinite series.

Calculus IV (Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in MA 2733). Three hours lecture. Differential calculus of functions of several variables; multiple integration; vector calculus.

I'm in Calc 3/Linear Algebra this semester. I've heard that Calc 2 is the hardest and that 4 is the easiest. We'll see.

Calc 4, from what Ive hear is quite interesting. Im not sure whats it all about since I havent takin it yet, but it will be the last math class Ill ever need to talk (considering I dont havent looked into a masters yet). From there its just the physics (fluid dynamics and whatnot) and engineering classes.

Besides math courses, math competition problems are very fun to solve. I got a collection of AIME problems from 1989-2005, and have been doing those for the past few days.

I've got to take 14 math classes for my degree. I don't actually get to take any topology classes until my senior year.

That sucks b/c I just need to finish calc 4, 1 sem or chem, lots a physics I dont know how much but its like one each semester for the first 3 years, a couple english classes, 2 comp science classes, and 4/5 engineering classes, thats all I need for my BME.

I'm a math/physics major.

I have to take:

Calculus I
Calculus II
Calculus III
Calculus IV
Linear Algebra
Differential Equations I
Intro to Modern Algebra
Mathematical Writing
Advanced Calculus I
Advanced Calculus II
Numerical Analysis I

Plus three more classes of my choosing. I'll probably do:

Mathematical Analysis I
Mathematical Analysis II
Elementary Topology

Wow. A lot of those classes sound redundant though. For me, Calc 2 includes linear algebra. What exactly is "Intro to modern algebra" "advanced calculus" "numerical analysis" and "mathematical analysis"?

or just plain liars

I got tested my freshman year of college at 121. I made mostly A's in school occasionally a B or two. My daughter got tested last year (8 years old) hers was 125 she makes all A's in school. They tested her because she scored 2nd in her entire class on the acheivement test. According to the gifted program teacher (TAG) you would need to score 140 or above to be gifted. She also said that normally a well rounded 125 usually does the best on test and in the real world becuase a 140 or higher tend to get bored very quickley and also become lazy.

The average for my state (TN) is 97.

You need 140 or above to qualify for the gifted program. Usally about 1 out of 70 students qualify

How big is your calc book and how much LA do you cover? My LA book alone is 700 pages.

The local university uses Stewart. My high school uses Larson, which I like the illustrations, but the problem sets are not as good. We use a different text for the Linear Algebra part. The stewart is over 1000 pages.

Wow, you guys cover a lot. I wish our program moved a little faster.

That describes me pretty accurately. I got so bored at HS. I hated homework to, because mandatory homework defeats the concept of it. Why am I going to pratice something I already know.

But I love to read. I don't even consider that homework. I usually finish reading my textbooks for class a couple of weeks after I get them.

Tell that to my calc teacher. We have homework notebook checks. I got a 68, 50, and a 70 on my homework in Calc 2.

Still got an A in the class though.

Huh. All my math teachers in College went strictly on tests. First one (college adv. algerbra) was 5 tests, drop the lowest, and final. 4.0'd that my junior year of HS. Second class was a bunch of quizes and tests, homework was extra credit. 4.0'd that one my senior year.

I got online test and got 90. I think it's very high, so I'm going to ask to increase my pay. Do you think it's reasonable? I think Einstain had something around 86.

My teacher thinks that we're idiots who need to do 70 integrals per night to get it.

I hope my IQ goes up by tomorrow.

I have an exam in my math class and it is all proofs. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! I hate proofs. Why do they have to torture the computer science majors like this?

I have straight As in calc 1-4 but I can't prove anything for sh!t.

Oh yeah, and whoever in this thread said that number theory is cool ought to be hung. I don't really give a flying hoot that there exists some integer that divides some other product of integers that blah blah blah....

My algerbra teacher was a old black dude who we couldn't understand very well. His board notes were excellent though. My trig teacher was a liberal BS'er who turned our class into 6th grade all over again. Groupwork, extra credit, sh1t like that. :disgust:
