We need more fantasy movies in Hollywood. Hopefully now that LOTR has proven to be a huge moneymaker more films of that type will be on the way.

It would be interesting to see George RR Martin's books as movies.

Which Dune movies would you guys consider to be the best? I know there's been quite a few of them over the years.

I don't really watch much fantasy so I'll go with the LOTR trilogy which is good.

Sci-Fi:

All of the Star Wars movies
All of the Aliens movies
Minority Report
A.I.
Matrix trilogy
Terminator series
Blade Runner
Time Machine
Event Horizon

Favorite out of that list, hmm... Empire Strikes Back or Aliens.

mm... fav fantasy could be the LOTR trilogy, but I really love The Neverending Story (the 2 sequels are awful with part 3 being one of the worst movies ever..oh..part 3 has Jack Black if you care)

I also loved The Dark Crystal ...I always had a soft spot for Jim Henson stuff.

For scifi its gotta be Star Trek 2. Also liked Event Horizon and Enemy Mine.

I also love Conan the Barbarian, though I think its the score that I truly love most about it.

I never saw the neverending story or Dark Crystal. I guess I'll have to add those to my must see list. WHen did the Conan movie come out?

That's a good one. A classic. I have to say I loved Blade Runner - Director's Cut.

EDIT: And for all the people that post that "The 5th Element" was a good movie, you are not allowed to vote. The 5th element is love? That's FAR too cheesy to give it a "classic" movie crown. That movie was horrible, but the ending alone disqualifies it from any awards or recognition.

But they showed boobies in the 5th element.

And Chris Tucker's performance was great! (Yes, it's got boobies, if you can call Milla's little titties "boobies"..)

Milla was so fvcking hot in that movie I was almost able to forgive all of the retarded sh|t that happened in it. Almost.

Well, you've already listed my favorites.

There are quite a few other good SF movies: 12 Monkeys, Gattaca, The Matrix, and Minority Report all come to mind, but there simply aren't many good fantasy movies. The only other ones that comes to mind after LOTR are the first two of the Star Wars fantasy series: Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back.

Willow WAS a kickass fantasy movie. Empire was my favorite star wars...but I think I'd give the scifi award to alien. Such perfect creepy atmosphere in that movie...extremely well done for a 70s flick!

Good choices...12 monkeys was actually a great movie. They Live was pretty hokey, but entertaining nonetheless.

That reminds me "The Thing" 1980s version with Kurt Russell was an excellent movie.

Which also reminds me, the 1980s remake of "The Fly" was pretty fvcking cool as well.

Star Trek II.

"Stand by to receive our transmission."

"Mr. Sulu, lock phasers on target."

If Predator counts as sci-fi, that's my vote. Best movie "monster" ever!
Otherwise, I'll just hop on the Event Horizon bandwagon.

Fantasy: Neverending Story, Willow, LotR

Sci-Fi: The Matrix (the first one only... I'm still working on repressing all memories of Reloaded and Revolutions)

Chronicles of Narnia are on the way. Hopefully they'll be as good as LOTR.

Willow:excellent, LOTR:excellent^2,Aliens:awesome,Starwars(first series):awesome
DUNE(the movie):very good, Dune(the 2 mini series):faithful to the books... The Matrix... Started very strong, the last one was a bit weak... there are a lot more good sci-fi movies out there and a lot of bad ones too...
Is it only me that didn't like Gattaca and Enemy mine???

Empire Strikes Back
Wrath of Khan
Alien
Aliens
Terminator 2
Predator
Stargate (well, the movie was so-so, but it set up a great show)

Actually, I thought I was going to be original picking Wrath of khan, but then I read the thread
