just tell them that radio shack used to sell a "make your own bose kit" for $25 that included everything needed to make those crappy little cube speakers that retail for $200 or whatever each.
Bose was great when it first came out. Totally revolutionized the home theater market.
However, every other respectable speaker company has surpassed Bose nowadays. The only thing Bose is relying to sell is it's name and the fact that mediocre people still believe that this is the best. Their best marketing plan was the put them in Fry's. Fry's salesmen push these speakers like crack!
Show them some Bose speakers. THen show them some real speakers.

ahhaaa if someone told me that radio shack pushed these speakers, i'd say HELL NO!!!
Yea, okay...I didn't buy them to impress a bunch of 16 year-olds who like DA BOOM...I bought them to listen to my tunes being pumped out of my Carver @ 1000W...makes your ears fell like they are bleeding, sir.
And I don't know what model number it is, but that 5 speaker system that goes for about $900 to $1000 doesn't even have an ACTIVE subwoofer. The sub is passive. For that kind of dough, I want a powerfull and ACTIVE sub.
Yeah, it sounds pretty good an all, but DVD has a special channel just for the subwoofer. I'd like to ask the Bose people how they can have great sound when they are missing the subwoofer channel.
My $249/pair Alpha A/V fronts will go higher on a sweep than your Bose will, almost guaranteed. Don't even think about comparing to Paradigm Studios or PSB Status speakers.
bose has a really good product for their target audience... people who want to spend 5x what they should on really tiny speakers that they can hide around the room and feel good knowing they bought the most expensive thing at best buy.
Geez you guys spend a lot of money on audio stuff. I'm happy with my $80 set of Boston Acoustics BA790 digital speakers hooked up to my Santa Cruz card. Plenty of sound for my untrained ears.
pff, you guys should build your own speakers, that's where the price/performance golden zone is. Viperoni can back me up on that. I spent $200 in components for some speakers that sound as good as $1000 speaker systems. I didn't do the crossover design, that was professionaly done, my crossover design wouldn't sound this good.
