hahah audioreview.com
bose 301 series iv
strengths:
Ummmm. Plays pretty loud.
Tweeter,advertising
NONE
They make good wheel chocks for my truck.
Everything imaginable!!! absolutely the best speakers ever made!!! The base is only paralled by MAYBE the Wilson Audio WATT/puppy. and the Treble! My god, dynaudio wasted their time designing those silly esotar tweeters(not to mention B&Ws wacky nautilus tweeter design, but I'll get into that)!!! Who'd have thought that the best treble in the entire world could come out of a $2 paper wizzer cone?!

weaknesses:
Sounds muddy. Paper cones. Paper tweeters. Spring clip connections. Too expensive for what you get.
a whole bunch
They are about $100 over priced. Speaker box is kinda cheap 1/2 inch press board
ALL
Poor bass response, spring clips, weak highs
Sound, Look
Price, low quality construction, over-hyped
Weak Highs, Exaggerated Bass response, Cheap Materials

lol, this is the first time in my life that I've heard that Bose is suck. I have nothing against them, or nothing for them........

can someone explain to me why they suck? Any websites that do comparisons or anything? I'm looking for technological reasons, and if it can be based on something. No opinions please, I think there are enough opinions in this thread already. :)

AHAHAHAHaaa
we have been bashing bose on this forum for quite a while
ask elemental007 he should have some links that bash bose pretty well(in fact form)

its not just facts if u go in and listen to the $1200 system bose has it has absolutely no mid range has a passive sub and does reproduce sound acurately...and then go listen to some say...umm Titans and a sub and it sounds better for 1/4th the price

What is a passive sub, and how does it work? and Titans? Is that a good brand? I've never heard of these brands before. What about Klipsch's home theater systems?

EDIT: I just reread my post, and I sound like such a n00b. :D

okay
1. size of the speakers. the size is great for when you want to lose the speakers in your living room. but its horrible for producing full range sound. the "sub" consists of some tiny drivers, 6.5" i think, which can't possibly vibrate at a low enough frequency to cover the bottom end of the audible spectrum. heck, i'm pretty sure they don't even break 38 or so Hz. so bass is not there. what is there is some mid-bass, and its muddy at that (a "feature" of all ported enclosures), plus the crossover is set so high that the frequencies are directional, not something you want coming out of a subwoofer. then theres the tweeters. the 1" speakers are also too small to reproduce midrange well, but too large to produce highs either.

2. quality. bose uses paper components for their cones. paper dry rots. everyone else is using polymers, etc. also, bose used pressboard to make their wood speakers, and plastic for most others. theres a reason studio monitors use real wood. also, i'm pretty sure bose uses no insulation between chambers to prevent cross vibration

3. price. really, the above two wouldn't matter if bose still had a good bang-buck ratio. problem is, they have the worst bang-buck ratio on the planet. their advertising machine has to pay out tons of money for all the adverts you see, right? thats money that doesn't go into their speakers. pretty much no other speaker company does that. how many acoustic research ads do you see flipping through the paper?

klipsch is a pretty good brand. some people don't like the sound of horn tweeters, others swear by them. i think b&w makes the best speaks, though.

throw up the 901 reviews, clown boy...and, look at the 1st post..."I need to convince...." Sounds like you are 14 years old trying to sway your friend's opinion...those PSB's are a joke...let me throw 1000W through them and then you can use them on your bookshelf to keep your stereo mags in place :)

A passive sub is a sub that is not amplified. Most subs have a single cable coming out of the receiver - a signal cable. Receivers almost never give amplificaiton for a sub. So typically either the sound signal comes out of the receiver to the sub and is amplified by an internal amp in the sub, or an offboard amplifier.

A sub with an onboard amplifier is considered a powered sub. A sub without one is considered a passive sub. In most cases, a passive sub is amped from a standalone amplifier. Most high end subs are indeed passive, since some audiophiles like certain amps for certain sounds. However Bose is again the exception - they leave the sub to have no external power. This is bad, and results in a very weak sound.

Titans are made by a company called Paradigm. Based out of Canada, they are known to have good products throughout all price ranges, ranging from sats at $160 a pair all the way up to towers at thousands a piece.

How much did you pay for 901s?

Quit avoiding the FVCKING QUESTION AND ANSWER IT

And secondly -

I quote:

<< Yea, okay...I didn't buy them to impress a bunch of 16 year-olds who like DA BOOM... >>

Now for someone that claims to be more than just power, how come you can only talk about wattage?

Why would you need something to hit higher than 105 dB - that is reference leve - ever?

I'd be interested to see what your SPL says at 1000W. If wattage is so important how come Denon's flagship receiver - the 5800 - only pushes 200W a channel.

Get some education before you come toting wattages.

I sure hope helpless is joking...

My Klipsches will do more with 100 watts than the Blowses will with 1000W!

So I guess you do like "da boom" then. All your arguements have been based soley on wattages, not a single mention of tone quality, response range, or anything!

Just wattage.

Who's the kid now?

Firstly, I am not arguing....I own the speakers and would buy them again. I need not impress a bunch of internet guys, sorry. Don't like 'em? Don't buy them...instead, just start a thread about 'favorite anti-bose sayings' and talk $hit about them....

As for the guy who was talking about education, want to compare resumes after we throw some juice to those great speakers you have?

<< SVS subs don't boom. Just a nice, flat response down to...oh 17 hz (16-46 series), and that sub will run ya less than $1000. >>

Or you could just build it yourself; the driver is around $150, the amp, well, you can pickup a 200x2/1000x1 RMS carver amp for aroudn $450 bones; figure it out yourself.

DIY speaker building for eva baby! :D
