Christ, stop making it more than what it is, talking about how this is endemic of everything that's wrong with the police. That's just as stupid as the people who are saying every time a cop does it, it's perfectly justified and fuck you for challenging them.
Cops aren't above the law. They need to wait at the lights (instead of putting everyone at risk) when its not an emergency.
That depends on the jurisdiction. That isn't true around here.
Cops are allowed to run red lights because they don't want to wait where you are?

You assume you know all the answers and you're making your own conclusions that are making you angry. Nice work.

When police do this, it's a code 2 call. This means that there's a high priority, non emergency call. On a code 2 call, there's supposed to get there as fast as they can, but they can not hinder traffic.

Actual scenario though? Its late at night (as people have stated earlier) and you would rather be driving around your beat than waiting at every stop light on an empty street.

If you actually think they don't look on either side of the intersection before crossing, you're an idiot.

Actually, I personally would prefer the officer be diligent and take the time to notice his surroundings during his tour. Crime doesn't always happen when other vehicles are around.

There's no way to know if it's a silent response or a cop being a douche. We don't have any info on why the cop is doing it, and we likely never will, unless we happen to see them pull into a Dunkins immediately after doing it or something. People are just going to take party lines on this one.

Not that that doesn't happen in other threads, but at least in other ones we have some data to work with, so it's actually funny. "We know for sure this cop broke the law" "I DON'T CARE COPS ARE HEROES RESPECT THEM FOREVER!!!ONE"

Oh the irony!!

Seriously Fritzo, you're like incapable of replying without putting your foot in your mouth.

They're people just like you and me. They couldn't go to college, so they became a pedestrain cop, making $40K for rest of their life.

I don't antagonize the cops either. They serve our community and protect us to have a civil life.

But keep in mind that they're just people. I don't particularly think they uphold any higher standards of morals or ethics than any of us.

When you see a cop doing that questionable flashing lights crap, it's probably because they simply can. Sometimes they abuse the power, sometimes they do not. Simple as that.

WTF is a pedestrain cop? Didn't make it to college? ;)

You do realize that most cops are people who were too dumb for regular careers, right? This hero worship is silly, they're often just unexceptional people with power trips..

A figurative word usage defining your everyday lowly ticket-handing cops.

 Is that supposed to be some type of "gotcha" response?

Having a good friend who is a cop I can say that I know for a fact that some cops do this sometimes just so they don't have to wait at a red light. He's told me about it and I saw him do it during a ride along. Although sometimes it is silent response.

Come on now...admit it...the "Hot & Fresh" light just went on at the local Krispy Kreme...THAT constitutes enough of an emergency to justify a "Code 2" response!

Arond here, it's amazing how many cops will run red lights without "lights and siren"...making you wonder if it's really an emergency...or just impatience...

BUT, I'm a strong enough supporter of "Las & Order" (not the show) that I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and move out of their way and not impede the stampede to the local donut shop! :p

If they aren't supposed to use lights and sirens why are they turning on the lights to get through a traffic light?

What part of "no lights and sirens" is difficult to understand?

You're a douchebag who doesn't respect the sacrifice that police make. The simple fact that you lump all police into your "pig" category, and admit your bias, makes your opinion on this matter worthless. :)

Edit: I guess, for clarity, I should have specified that Zane's opinion concerning police means jackshit, due to his obvious bias against them. I'm sure his opinion concerning, say, what types of drugs I should take to get wasted would carry a lot of weight.

From his threads here, not only could zanejohnson help you decide WHICH drugs to take, he could probably help you score them...or sell them to you himself from his big score in the Texas pharmacies and pain management clinics...

I'd like to hear the logic behind "your opinion means jack shit" being a fact.

I don't make a habit of asking convicted druggies about their opinions concerning police, just like I don't make a habit asking atheists about their opinion concerning Christianity. In both cases I can infer what they're going to say. And, the stated fact would be that zanejohnson is a convicted druggie.

- asshole cops taking advantage of their power (fuck pigs!); or
- selfless individuals dashing off to save the day in a situation so dangerous that putting on their lights could cause the downfall of western civilization (oh, those valiant heroes!)

As always, the truth is somewhere in the goddamned middle. Sometimes they really have to get to a call with no lights and no sirens. Sometimes, they don't want to be bothered to sit at a light.

I love when people apply black and white logic to a gray world.

Then what fun would ATOT be?

Lucky for you he wasn't stating it because you asked, it was because he has every right to voice his opinion, no matter how you feel about it. God bless America.

My point wasn't whether or not anyone has been convicted of anything, it was the statement that "your opinion means jack shit" is a fact, which it is clearly not. Disputing that will only make you look foolish.
