I've heard that from family that visited Ireland, actually. They said the Guinness in the states wasn't nearly as good as the real stuff. I'm 28, btw.

I think it was about 10 years ago when they started making it in Canada. It was when the label changed(larger graphic, not as "old" looking). Guinness is still special to me, as it was my first love as far as beer goes, but I agree that there are better stouts out there, especially with the craft brew revolution.

The best stout I've had was one a friend of mine made. Thick and delicious, sweet without being cloying. I'd buy that almost every time if it were sold in stores :^)

That would explain its popularity. :) Damn I need to homebrew.

Vodka and kalua and milk maybe??

Kalua + Lime juice. I don't think it's the taste that makes them unpleasant. It's the fact if you don't swallow it instantly it will turn to a weird cement like consistancy in your mouth. The one time I had one, everyone was screaming "swish it around in your mouth!" the bartender chick told me not to listen to them. I was hammered so I did it. The cement went down and I ended up puking up the other 4 double shots they had just forced upon me.

Like just about EVERY non-Greek who first tries it, I couldn't stand Retsina on my first go 'round, and also like just about every non-Greek who sticks with it, I learned to LOVE it.

That looks interesting. How much would one expect to pay for a bottle?

I don't know. It can't be that much. It was basic and nearly dirt cheap in Greece, along with raki on Crete and, of course, ouzo. But, trust me, you really won't like it much the first time you have it, no non-native seems to.

Maybe not, but I'm always interested in traditional ethnic drinks. If it isn't too expensive, I'll give it a shot :^)

Cool! I recommend getting two bottles if they're cheap enough, as I'm convinced you won't like it right off the bat, and I AM here to tell you that most ALL, including myself, grow to really like it.

Report back if you follow through!

Like I said, NO ONE likes it the first time 'round. Yet, most everyone who hangs with it, including me, grows to really love it. Weird, that.

I had this without the mayonnaise. It was bad.

we call that a prairie fire if you don't have the mayo.

As for me: EASILY a shot of mt. gay rum. AWFUL. Took the shot, immediately ran into the bathroom and vomited.

I'll definitely report back. We have a liquor store nearby that has a pretty good wine selection. If anyone has it, they will :^)

Must have been the Fireball Whiskey that killed it. Felt like my insides were on fire.

New bartender once made me a kamikaze with gin instead of vodka.

Gin, triple-sec and lime aren't that tasty.
