Have you had good gin? I used to hate it too, but after having Bombay Sapphire, I've become a convert. Gin & tonics with Bombay are delicious.

Yeah, I thought all gin was horrid until someone bought everyone a round of that. I haven't had it since, but it was palatable.

No, that's normal. It's an acquired taste. Basically, if you wouldn't actually drink from a bottle of Tabasco, you aren't going to like it. Now, for people like me who pour hot sauce on spicy food, prairie fires ain't half bad. They're a great trick to pull on a friend. Order two. If your friend doesn't see it being made, you're fine, but he probably will. Tell him the tequila neutralizes the capsaicin in the Tabasco so it's not spicy at all, then pound yours. The look on his face after he takes his shot is so worth it.

absinthe isnt too bad if you do hot shots... but ya its defintely a "mind change" drink.

When I had absinthe it was right after it became "legalized" in the US. That is used loosely because is it really absinthe without the wormwood? Either way, we tried melting the sugar and doing it properly, but I didn't have that metal tool that lets you melt the cube directly into the drink. My experience may be tainted, but hot damn it was bad.

Absinthe with wormwood is legal in the US now and has been since 2007. I've seen many brands in my local liquor store that sell absinthe made with grande wormwood.

But I do agree the taste is nasty, but I hate the taste of liquorice.

Also, straight gin is horrific.
