You have superior cars, roads and drivers.

109 in my '96 3.4L Cutlass Supreme... I could probably have pushed it faster, but out of fear (not from cops, from damn stupid deer and other animals) I refrained

100mph in both my 94 (now dead) and 98 Cavaliers. Dont know if they had more or not, I ran out of room but i highly doubt they would go much faster.

120ish in a Nova in the quarter mile (passenger), not sure what year the nova was. It was a long time ago.

Did about 140mhp in my 325i. Did 165+ in my frinds M5. Was a passanger at 180MHP (911 turbo, Germany), again a passenger at about 190MHP in a Ruf 911 porsche, and anothe 180 or so mhp in a Ferarri Testarosa.

Seen a F40 doing 200+ mhp on the autobahn, and seen a Bugatti 110 doing maybe 220mhp on the autobahn (we were doing 160 in a 7-series bmw, and the thing LITERARY flew past us).

I've gone in excess of 180mph but I fell off at 179. Bike. Estimated. On the track you use gearing and RPM and not MPH.

99% of car speedometers are inaccurate to the extreme after 90mph or so.
The old Mercur XR4ti did an honest 145 as witnessed by a County Mounty that paced me in a Chevy with a LT1 350 and his speedo was right on. I knew him btw and feared not a ticket.:)

About a week after I bought my Porsche 944 I got stuck behind someone going 45 in a 65. Pulled out from behind them & wanted to give it a good amount of gas so that I didn't make the people coming up behind me slow down too much. Put it in 3rd gear & floored it untill I hit redline (in my old car this would be about 75), then I looked down & saw 120mph.....quickly hit the brakes till I was going 70. The car was amazingly quick from 45-120 & was incredibly smooth @ 120mph (About as smooth as my old car @ 50mph).

Actually most interstates (major highways) are 65, and in some states 75 is even more common. I think there are even a few states with an 80mph speed limit on the interstates (can anyone verify this?).

112 mph in my old 1998 Ford Contour SE (with the 2.5L V6 and 5 on the floor). Could have gone faster but the speed governor kicked in. :disgust:

I've taken my 2001 Accord EX-L (2.3L I-4, 5spd) to 105 but haven't found the room to take her up much faster. I'd probably go to 115-120 given the chance before backing off. It's a midsize "family car", after all.

I took my 1997 Civic EX (1.6L I-4, 4spd ATX) to 90 once - which is, yes, slow - but the car really felt skittish at that point. Blame the cheap Firestones and the slushboxed small engine not wanting to fight the wind resistance.

Hahaha the spedometer in my old Crown Vic topped off at 85, so I'd say around 90/95 MPH for that one. After that, I got a corolla with crappy tires, so I never pushed past 85.

136MPH in a rental 94 Ford Probe GT. My 95 Mustang topped out on 110MPH with speed control chip inside of speedometer.

It's not 55 anymore- if it was, I think I would have killed myself by now. The limit here is now 70mph on average, and 75 in some places. I've noticed in the last year that more and more people are ignoring the speed limits (especially here in Texas), and most people including myself drive at about 80mph... 90mph when we can get away with it.

I see you've never been in a Ford Festiva. My car only has 52 HP. :)

I can say from experience that 80mph in a Ford Festiva takes balls....and a nice hilll with a slight tailwind

Let's just say that according to the speedometer I was 8mph in excess of my tires design limit. Basic S-rated tires on a 1988 Accord LX-i with the slushbox. That was over four years ago though and it took several miles of road. Since then I've not been above an indicated 80-85. Something about getting older and developing an aversion to firey wrecks.

ZV

EDIT: Almost forgot about the 914. I've seen an indicated 90 mph in that car when I was testing to see how well it pulled in 5th. The manual lists 120 (IIRC) as the top speed for the car, wich is about 5,000 RPM in 5th according to the gearing/RPM chart in the manual. I pretty much just watch the tach in that car anyway, it's just easier.
