I think the best sub sandwich I've ever had was from a small roadside stand just north of Rockford, Michigan. It's out on some back road (I wish I could remember the name of the road!) in the middle of nowhere in a small roadside stand type building. It had seating for about 10-15 in the front with a very small kitchen in the back but the sandwiches were F'ing HUGE and they were very cheap for as much as what you got. Heck, two people could eat very happily off one 12" sub and still end up full. I believe the place was called Vitalies or something like that. I was hungry and tried out the place on a recommendation of a friend of mine. Man, best sub I've ever had. Beats all the others I've tried by miles.

Pizza, eh. Can't touch the pizzas New Yorkers eat. :) Everything around here tastes like reprocessed garbage. I'm giving a thumbs up to the entire state of New York on their pizzas. :)

HEY

New Jersey and Pennsylvannia has GREAT pizza too.

: ) Amanda

you poor poor deprived soul. if papa johns is the best pizza you ever had. i really really feel for you.

Most local places in NJ, NY and PA are WAY WAY better than papa Johns. Most local places in chicago are WAY WAY better than papa johns.

papa johns is at best, just a little better than Pizza hut / Dominoes.

D'oh. I was in Manhattan yesterday around 23rd and 45th streets. Ah well. Actually, I wonder how their sandwiches compare to Cosi's. I'm quite a fan of their Tandoori Chicken sandwich (albeit overpriced).

Hahahaha... two of my roommates work at Quizno's. When people call up there and order one thing but call back and change their mind afterwards, it goes in the bag. When people change their minds on subs after its gone into the oven, it goes in the bag. When they close the store for the night, the bag comes to my house. Beggers can't be choosers, but I must say its a nice perk

That said, my favorite sub from quizno's is their special thanksgiving sub, with turkey, cheese, cranberry dressing and mayo... too bad its not year round

Best Pizza in LA is...uhh...not many.
BJ's Brewery is decent for Chicago pizza.
Lorenzo's in Westwood is decent for NY pizza.
There's a couple good places on Hwd. Blvd. too.

Sandwiches? Hands down, Busy Bee Deli in San Pedro.
$3.50 will get you a gigantic bbq (beef/chicken/pork/turkey/etc) sandwich on great bread with cheese and all the fixins. You won't eat for a week afterwards.

after just returning from nyc and having some of the arguably best pizza it has to offer (grimaldis or something like that in brooklyn, and joe's in greenwich), it all depends on what you like. best pizza i've ever had was zachary's in berkeley, which is the exact opposite of new york pizza. best sub sandwich varies, but sepi's in westwood is always reliable.

i don't know about zacharies in berkley but i've been to a couple of berkley pizza places and they were chicago style pizza. and i agree chicago style is VERY different from the NY Pies.

A good deep dish pizza is Very good indeed.

Best New York style pizza is either pizza box, tre giovanni, unos on 6th and 8th, or ben's on macdougal.

Best sub is either the cheesesteak @ BBs sandwich bar or my family's 2 foot long fat sandwiches which only get made during the summer, only during picnics and bbqs.

"The best pizza in all New York is at Di Fara's (1424 Avenue J), where, for decades, owner Dominic DeMarco has been making sauce from scratch, fresh and tangy, to go with an extraordinary crust and flavorful cheese."

Best Sub:
Without a doubt from The Spa in Good Ol' brookline Mass.
Texan is good: Tasty chicken nicely spiced, bacon, cheese, BBQ sauce. The chicken's so good I'd eat it alone for every meal for a week

Or maybe the Clogger, 1/3lb. Shaved steak, Canadian bacon, enough cheese to choke a donkey. There's a belly-ache in every bite!

Best pizza...dunno....best pizza I get regularly, Pino's. #1 with a pepsi, please. Makin me hungee, what's in the fridge?
