Just a cut of meat, like 10-20lbs.

Looking to spend at most $50 shipped.

Live in Illinois, so going to a farm isn't out of the question. I may even go to a farm since I'm going to go to UIUC, and pick it up there, what is a good price to ask a farmer?
10-20 lbs isn't really bulk meat, however you might be able to get a butcher to give you a small deal if that is the quantity that you are looking at.

The very minimum that I have seen is 1/4 cow however it was organic meat that can be purchase at the local farmers.

My sisters & I often purchase half a cow and have it divided into portions from the farmer to fit our freezers. Bulk organically free range cow cost about the same as the regular meat that you can get I IGA/etc? however the organic meat tastes much nicer and is better for you.

Finally!

Thank you for a straight answer.

Now do you know of any place online that may be able to do this?

Or can I buy from you?

I know it doesn't.

But I've bought big packages of pork about the size of an alternator at the store.

I'm looking for something like that.

So just go to the same store and ask for an alternator sized piece of beef?
OMFG..

Tried. Didn't work out as well, they just carry pork in those amounts, and I'm not buying like 4 packages of meat, I want just one cut about the size of an alternator.

Beef doesn't make a very good alternator...try copper.

The butcher shop is great. for hamburger (depends on grade) at $2.31lb if you order over 25lbs its $2.20lb if over 50lbs then its $2 or so. They also have some great beef bundles.

1/4th is the smallest i have seen also. Been looking at getting 1/2 a cow soon. A friend wants to go half on a full cow that someone is selling but we would have to get it butchered ourselves.

Beef Brisquet (sp, possible horribly misspelled) usually come in large hunks. But they're also usually specially BBQ'd too. It is a rather large piece of meat though.

10 pounds isnt bulk.

Restaurants that cut out there own steaks usually get like slabs of cow between 20-25 lbs. They get those thorugh a commercial food distributor.

EDIT: $50 for 10-20 lbs shipped = you on crack

This is that close to going in my sig. Me and the GF have been ROFLMAO at this thread.

Anyhow, I don't think 10lbs is considered 'bulk'.

For all the posters below me we have already established the fact that 10lbs is not bulk.

Try Costco....

the butchers usually have a fair sized round or loin, though it'll be more then $50 methinks...

Ok I got like a 20lb pound slab of NY Strip from my buddy who owns a very very large commercial food distrib. They get whole cows and then trim them down to sizes like this.

20 LB Slab of cow before cut

They then sell these slabs of cow to restaurants and other places that need that much steak.

After trimming the fat I got about a dozen NY strip here is the after.

mmmm NY strips!!!

so in summary you would not be buying from a cow farmer if you wanted 20 LBS of meet you would buy from a commercial food distribution company. and $50 is way below the mark for any good cut of meat.
