What would you rather drink: dangerous refined sugar or dangerous aspartame?

If you knew (or know already) that sugar and aspartame are both dangerous, which one would you rather drink if given the choice?

Splenda is kind of safe, as far as I know....

I very, very rarely drink anything that has either of those things in it, so I don't really care.

Sugar probably. I cut aspartame from my diet a couple of months ago and I feel better. I'm certainly not going back. What's wrong with refined sugar, besides the usual stuff that we associate with all sugar?

Sugar is the supposed cause of countless problems. It is also supposed to make existing medical conditions worse.... don't ask me to find links to proofs... I'm not trying to convince you that sugar is bad.....

Sugar, I'd rather have obesity, cavities and the like rather than a heightened chance of MS

I believe you have sugar and HFCS confused

Sugar, in moderation, is perfectly safe. Maybe not if you're diabetic. Aspartame doesn't exactly scare me either.

Excess sugar consumption is "the supposed cause of countless problems". I think carbohydrates in general (which your body converts to sugars for energy) are the bigger issue. Somehow I doubt the amount of refined sugar I occasionally add to my tea or coffee (1 teaspoon) is dangerous.

Obviously if I were drinking 300g of sugar a day, that would not be good for my body.

"Proofs" would be nice. I get your point, but the unqualified "sugar is bad" doesn't mean anything. Everything is bad for you, if abused. As theflyingpig would say, "Everyone knows this".

Almost anything in excess is bad.

Drink too much water and see what happens.

Aspartame causes cancer. Besides, I'm pretty much allergic to it.

Sugar is fine for people that aren't allergic to it. It's basically what your body uses to synthesize glucose. Aspartame is not.

"the safety of another artificial sweetener, aspartame, is clear cut, say FDA officials. FDA calls aspartame, sold under trade names such as NutraSweet and Equal, one of the most thoroughly tested and studied food additives the agency has ever approved. The agency says the more than 100 toxicological and clinical studies it has reviewed confirm that aspartame is safe for the general population."

Where's the safe aspartame option? This thread fails. Also, have you stopped beating your wife?

sugar isn't dangerous. The quantities in which Americans consume it is. American's waste lines are proof that they don't handle massive amounts of carbs very well.

The FDA is a sham (they have enough history to prove that). Their study assumes that people drink no more than 2 cans of soda a day, which is far below the threshold that was used in the rat study that caused a significant increase in incidence. We all know that most people who drink soda drink far more than 2-cans worth a day.

On top of that, diet soda/aspartame tastes like ass.

😕 You mean that single study where they OD'd the rats with aspartame?

Currently, drinking a can of Pepsi Max w/ aspartame.

"Conclusion: The present work indicates a lack of association between saccharin, aspartame and other sweeteners and the risk of several common neoplasms."

"In conclusion, our prospective epidemiologic study suggests that aspartame consumption derived from its main source, aspartame-containing beverages, does not raise the risk of hematopoietic or brain malignancies."

I haven't seen a study that supported the whole aspartame is bad thing that didn't have a ton of holes in it, but health nuts are quick to call things bad and will believe any source that tells them so. The internet then spreads the fud to the rest of the population.

I'm diabetic, so I'll take aspartame (or Splenda). I like having feet, kidneys, eyes etc.
