Excess sugar consumption is "the supposed cause of countless problems". I think carbohydrates in general (which your body converts to sugars for energy) are the bigger issue. Somehow I doubt the amount of refined sugar I occasionally add to my tea or coffee (1 teaspoon) is dangerous.
Obviously if I were drinking 300g of sugar a day, that would not be good for my body.
"Proofs" would be nice. I get your point, but the unqualified "sugar is bad" doesn't mean anything. Everything is bad for you, if abused. As theflyingpig would say, "Everyone knows this".

"the safety of another artificial sweetener, aspartame, is clear cut, say FDA officials. FDA calls aspartame, sold under trade names such as NutraSweet and Equal, one of the most thoroughly tested and studied food additives the agency has ever approved. The agency says the more than 100 toxicological and clinical studies it has reviewed confirm that aspartame is safe for the general population."
Where's the safe aspartame option? This thread fails. Also, have you stopped beating your wife?

The FDA is a sham (they have enough history to prove that). Their study assumes that people drink no more than 2 cans of soda a day, which is far below the threshold that was used in the rat study that caused a significant increase in incidence. We all know that most people who drink soda drink far more than 2-cans worth a day.
On top of that, diet soda/aspartame tastes like ass.

Splenda is kind of safe, as far as I know....
