If you knew (or know already) that sugar and aspartame are both dangerous, which one would you rather drink if given the choice?

Splenda is kind of safe, as far as I know....

I'm diabetic, so I'll take aspartame (or Splenda). I like having feet, kidneys, eyes etc.

Type I or II?

I will stick with sugar, though I just wish companies would go back to using it instead of high fructose corn syrup.

All of the artificial sweeteners I have tried have had a nasty aftertaste, much less a sugary taste.

I'm a type II diabetic who gets ill from Aspartame (Nutrasweet) pronto.

I've never tried stevia, but there is a derivative that you can buy. I can't remember the name of it.

I vote for Splenda any day!

Edit: Propel - Nutrient enhanced beverage- flavors of black cherry, peach mango, strawberry kiwi, blueberry pomegranate, mixed berry. I don't like the citrus or the grape. Not that they 're bad I just don't like those flavors anyway.

Edit: For a nice variety of soda, all sweeteners, and artificial sweeteners, rare varieties of many flavors.

Sugar, HFCS and Aspartame are perfectly safe.

Too much sugar and HFCS can make you fat. Use both in moderation and as a tool and both can give you a great energy burst while working out and be part of a great occational sweet treat.

There are no valid peer reviewed and repeated studies showing ANY difference in how the body metabolizes sugar vs HFCS. Sugar and HFCS are basically the same 50/50 mixture of Glucose and Fructose. Your body reacts to it exactly the same. ALL the hype over HFCS come from idiots who read bad things about fructose and ignorantly think it applies to HFCS only.

And there are also no valid peer reviewed and repeated studies showing harm from Aspartame unless you suffer from a very rare genetic disease.

Going to ignore the poor wording by Amused above since the general ideas are correct. Neither of these are particularly harmful. That said, I prefer sugar for a variety of reasons. However, I think sugar-based drinks should be used very, very sparingly and in most cases there are better alternatives to sugar-based or aspartame-based drinks.

Sugar is the supposed cause of countless problems. It is also supposed to make existing medical conditions worse.... don't ask me to find links to proofs... I'm not trying to convince you that sugar is bad.....

I believe you have sugar and HFCS confused

you know what they say about HFCS

It's an actual long time brick and mortar store in L.A., and most of their business is through the door. As long as the shopping cart is secure, there isn't anything to worry about.

Galco is the store name.

Sugar. I can't live without that stuff. Well I technically could, but don't want to.

I've greatly cut down on pepsi though, and I find I have so much less energy. I need to replace that lost sugar with something else, maybe I can just get those cubes and eat them. I used to do that all the time as a kid.

I got it once at a highland games, but haven't been able to find it since. I'd like to buy it locally, as I sure shipping's outrageous on sodas.

Sugar >*

That being said, my fiancée and I get really bad gas when we eat 'no sugar added' foods. Artificial sweetener can be bad news...

Really I don't see how sugar can be "dangerous" Like, of course it's not good to have too much, but it's not like it was a non natural chemical or something. Sugar can be found in fruit and other natural foods.

The Aspartame study was kind of rediculous.

They intravenously injected the equivalent of thousands of cans of diet coke into rats and the rats developed tumors. They used that to say conclusively that Aspartame causes cancer.

Except injecting yourself with a ton of substances in this quantity would have extremely severe health effects anyway...

So I would argue that the scientific rationalization is unsound. The FDA agrees.

You can also find venom in natural foods 😛

Just playing devils advocate.

Aspartame's good to go, studies show no links to cancer. But soda/pop is still bad for you for a lot of other reasons.
