No it would not be suicide as you put it. Bush and just about everybody knows that if you want to give a little jump start you give money to people that will spend it. Thats why all his little tax breaks for big business and upper class/rich have done little. Thats why HE wants to give money to lower end/poor people as they are more likely to go spend it on something to give a little jump and less likely to invest it. When push comes to shove, i.e. his legacy, he knows how things really work and the ole song and dance of tax breaks and welfare for the big business and rich does not affect the US economy on a large scale any more as they are just as likely to give themselves a nice bonus or send it overseas. Poor people though will buy TVs, cars, food, gas, etc... items that built the economy from the ground up. Mind you I don;t think this will help more then just a short term boost and just add more to the national debt but hey whats another trillion or so for republicans. They know they can just blame dems when they have to get back in power and pay the bills the Repub's ran up, i.e. spending cuts and more taxs/fees.

which is why they will stay poor.
Giving money to the poor is just a short term fix they stimulate the economy but then once their money is gone they are crying because they can't afford anything except what they charge on their credit cards that they should not have in the first place, then the gov't steps in and hits the banks for "predatory credit card practices" or some bullshit.
Give money to business and they invest it back into the business which is longer term....why ? because they can build their business then write off the investment in equipment, training or anything else.
Once they show some growth and improvement then others are more likely to invest which will help drive the stock, and a good stock market is what for the economy?
How many poor people are you willing to invest your money into? what do you think your rate of return will be?

The idea is to get people to spend or to not stop spending money and soften the impact of a recession.

Why $1200? A married couple could bring in a pretty decent girl for $600 easy. Or so I've heard.
How is this rebate works anyway? If one spouse makes about $85k but another spouse makes less than that. Their combine income is less than the cut off limit. Does this mean they will get $1200 or only $600 i.e. one qualify

We have been planning to take a cruise for our 10th anniversary for a couple of years.
This will pay for that, and what I put aside to pay for it will probably go toward the bar tab on the ship (actually I will feel more free to do some nicer shore excursions).
