Heh. It is sad that I was thinking pretty much the same thing. "Yay, our factory would be closer!"

Invading Mexico is like buying a $1000 house in Detroit.

Sure it's cheap but you now own a run down crack house in a bad neighborhood filled with people who would kill you for the change in your pocket.

The other way to look at it is you end up with a country with a ton of natural resources and a potentially very industrious population capable of being very productive once a 500 year old system of entrenched corrupt government is removed from their backs.

The Chinese have got bodies, they don't need more mouths to feed. They'd definitely be interested in the resources but the US's ability to cause problems for them would be almost limitless.

if China wanted more natural resources, I suspect they'd start looking closer to home.

China v Russia would be interesting.

Aside from the ridiculous scenarios in the OP, the US would immediately come to either country's aid.
A better question would be what would it take for the US to NOT come to their aid, or for the US to actually invade them. Perhaps Mexico gets couped by a drug-lording regime and starts enacting a huge genocide?

Would you guys demand your government to support Cuba if China decided to invade it?

We probably would. Monroe Doctrine.
Where were the US in the Falklands War?

um. That's not Latin America, which is defined as essentially the islands and countries near the border of North and South America. Argentina is very southern South America.

Exactly, that war was a European war. Evidenced by all the Limeys that live Patagonia proper.

that is a ridiculous proposition, but lets forget the insane scenarios and just say hypothetically... if china invaded any country bordering the US, it would be war time

i think better question is that if China invades Taiwan, will US come to Taiwan's aid like the agreement they signed, or US turns its back on Taiwan.

It wouldn't happen but if it did.

Obama would send a strongly worded letter telling them that we disapprove and that we will not stand for it.

Mexico would need aid from the U.S. to clean up the hundreds of thousands of corpses of those Chinese soldiers that did not quite make the swim across the Pacific.
