Wow...going WAAAAAY back,
We had a couple of computers...Texas Instruments something....(tI-99? ) then a Coleco Adam, another TI something, then an NCR 8088 machine that had 640K of ram...WOW 640K! Even Bill Gates said you'd NEVER need more RAM that that...EVER!! LOL! Dual 5-1/4" floppy drives. NO hard drive...Used DOS 3.1 ( I thiink) and a couple of others over the years. Had WordStar, Word Perfect, and Microsoft Word. Also had Lotus 123 and a couple other programs...Printed stuff on a Panasonic Panaprinter dto matrix unit...(still have that in a closet somewhere, but can't get ribbons anymore). Had a Packard Bell (?) 386 for a while, but it had too many problems, so I got rid of it and went back to the 8088 for a couple of years...only did occasional word proccessing, so it worked fine. Then Bill Gates came out with Windows 95...WOW...what an improvment over the earlier windows programs....

A program called Writing Assistant. My dad used it on an IBM PCjr with an 8088 processor. He also used it on his packard bell 286. I was too young to really have any use for a word processor at that time though. The first word processor which actually recieved a lot of use was MS Works for Win 3.1 on our old 486.

Perfect Writer and WordStar on Kaypro CP/M.

Then Apple Writer, then Xwrite, Word for Mac, PCWrite, WordPerfect for DOS, VI, WordPerfect for Windows, Word for Windows, Notepad, WordPad, JEXT.

Somewhere in there I got stuck using edlin for a project which sucked more than you might think possible.

Some ridiculous package on a Commodore many many years ago. It sucked so much that I used a typewriter. My first real usage of a work processor was MS Word on a 286 computer that a friend had in graduate school. I bought my own within a semester and have had computers ever since.

Never liked word processors that much. First 'real' wordprocessor must have been one of the 5 1/4 inch versions of Word Perfect.

Before that I just used some editor on the Amiga 500. And a typewriter before that :p

Edit: Couldn't remember the name at first, but that editor was called 'MicroEmacs' :)

Linky for those who want it for old times sake :)
