First Windows machine was 3.1 when I was 9 or so. But I had been using an older machine with just DOS for a few years before that.

The first version of Windows I ever used was Windows 3.1. It came with my dad's Packard Bell 486SX 25Mhz with 8mb ram that he bought in 1993 and it looked like this:

I'm curious if the younger generation has ever even seen Win 3.x.

same.

nearly the same PB computer, too; though it was Pentium 75mhz with 8mb RAM.

$1400, with free B&W printer. Boo-Ya!

Windows 3.0 for a month, then 3.1. I barely used it though. Mainly stayed in DOS.

3.11 & DOS 6.22 for me. 486DX4@100MHz, I think we got it near the end of 1994.

3.1 was OK, but I cringed when I had to go from my Amiga to a Windows 3.1 machine. AmigaOS and Workbench smoked it badly.

The Amiga was actually well ahead of its time. Just a matter of poor marketing and momentum by Microsoft and PCs.

Dad bought a Gateway 2000 386 in 1990 with Windows 3.0 on it, but we upgraded to 3.1 when it came out in 1992. Prior to that we had an IBM PC Jr. (1985) and then a clone 286 box (1987). I've still got a 5.25" floppy with "DOS Backop (sic) 1.0" on it. :D

I should add this was on a 386DX40 with 8mb RAM. Came from a C64 on my TV. Was quite the change.

1.0, used MS-DOS/PC-DOS before that with IBM compatibles early '80s.
Late '70s-early 80s, I remember writing programs and saving then in 8" floppies. IIRC, Windows 3.0 came with 27 floppies or so, reinstalling it was a pain.

My first computer was running Mac OS, don't know which one.

The first Windows I used was ME in school.

I wish I could specify that it was Windows 95a. That's the one that had filename extensions enabled by default, each folder opened in a separate window, and there was no version of Internet Explorer.

I later got a lot of experience with DOS and Win3.1

I used a friend's PC with 3.1 for a good while before I ever had my own.

First PC my family got was a Gateway2k with Win95, that had apparently bypassed any kind of pre-ship testing. Windows was kind of installed but it wouldn't boot, lol. Spent the first 12 hours after taking it out of the box on the phone with tech support, eventually formatting and reinstalling Windows... at the time it sucked, but it got me a great head start on troubleshooting.

3, but I don't remember if it was .1 or 3.11. A friend had 95 but I skipped to 98, skipped ME for 2000 and I've had at least one machine of each version since.

Win 95 on a gateway 2000, no idea what proc was in it I was too young at the time to really know anything about it. I did like the hovercraft game they had in either 95 or 98(think it was on a disk, I dont really remember). Kept that comp for a long time till a p3 upgrade and xp sometime in the early 2000's.

I feel bad for the guy who voted for ME. That's a pretty shitty first experience.

95 or 98. I'm not sure which. I remember using 98 a lot though.

I was born in 1990, so... it's not like I could use anything before that first unless it was an old computer.

Windows 95, been through 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, and now Windows 7.

Suprisingly I didn't find ME to be all that bad.

lol, I have used every windows from 3.1 to vista, and I can say, Windows ME made me cry, easily the worst windows ever.

A girl I dated a few years ago had parents that only had a WinME computer with dialup, I think I may have dated her out of pity.
