First version of Windows you used?

Windows 3.0, only briefly tried it out but it wasn't ready for prime time. Used AIX on UNIX which was great and Solaris on Sun which was very pretty but not as good as AIX. Came back to Windows 3.1 which was a dramatic improvement over 3.0. I became Godlike on 3.11 for Workgroups then moved to NT, 95b, and Me. Win Me wasn't nearly as bad as history has painted it.

A girl I dated a few years ago had parents that only had a WinME computer with dialup, I think I may have dated her out of pity.

Yeah, kinda seemed like Microsoft was basically like, "Well, this thing is maybe 50% complete but what the hell, I'M ALL IN"
 
Just to nerdify the place, I also used OS/2 and OS/2 Warp. They were awesome OS's by IBM that were DOS compatible. It was a lot like using Windows NT back in 1990. I could play Tie Fighter in a window and be connected to Prodigy in another. Problem was it needed 8 MB of RAM to run right...and ram was about $100/MB. Also standard 14" CRT's made using windows kind of useless.

(I had to LOL because I'm using a 37" LCD to type this right now).

Is that what the OS/OS2 options in my bios mean?

I've been wondering for awhile.
 
I played around with with the trash that MS called Windows 2.0 during my Apple and Amiga days. As for true usage, it was Windows 3.0~3.11, Win95, NT3~4, and Win2K.

I played around with Linux since the mid 90s, and completely converted over to it during the NT4~Win2K conversion. Windows is now purely a game OS for me.

PS. Not a good poll, since Win3.x & Win95, are completely different OS than NT.

Nerd fight: I posted earlier about OS/2. Didn't care much for it as nothing was compatable. Oh, and I used Compuserv.....to hell with Prodigy. Don't remember the modem speed at the time but it was a much needed upgrade from the 300bps (yes, 300 bits per second) of the first modem that I had.

Yep. Microsoft and IBM were jointly working on it, and when it was about 80% done, Microsoft said "OK - we're good...cya!"

They took all of the research and turned it into Windows NT, and parts of NT became Windows 95.

IBM still released OS/2, and it actually had some success, but yeah the hardware was not up to the task. It was about 10 years too early.

I loaded ME on my system and it was so bad that I dumped it and decided it was worth potential compatibility problems to go with Windows 2000 Pro instead.
 
I vaguely remember OS/2, had this IBM comp with hardware that was installed all using push pins. Which back then was quite neat as you could easily take it apart, whereas everything else require a lot of screws. Never did much with os/2, just booted it up and looked around for a bit. This was after xp had come out, so the machine was rather dated.

Win2k was legendary, it's like XP without the sacrifices for usability, probably my favorite Windows yet. I ran it up to a couple years ago, when my vid card stopped supporting it. I miss it, it was lean and mean.

Windows ME is where bluescreens go after they die, a heaven for errors.
 
Windows 2.0, at a small technology retail store I worked at while in college. I remember it being pretty much nothing more than Windows Explorer, though we played a ton of Reversi when the boss wasn't looking.

Same here, though I had to go back to Win98 for a while before I had the money to replace some of the hardware that wasn't compatible with Win2k.

I actually beta tested XP for a while but I hated the new UI and while I could select classic windows I didn't really see any features worth upgrading to XP. I stuck with 2000 for a long time before finally upgrading to XP.

Surprisingly I also beta tested Vista and liked it so much because of Media Center that I upgraded as soon as it came out. 😱

It was my first Windows OS, used it in grade 3 or 4, cant remember. I didn't really mind it much though, we did nothing but go into notepad and learn how to type. My dad bought a Mac for us to use at home so I liked the different experience.

I think it was Windows 95 for me. BTW, Why did everyone hate Windows ME? I've used it a couple of times and I never noticed anything wrong with it. (Though I've never owned a PC with it, nor had any extensive experience with it)
 
I remember messing around with Windows 3.1 on a friend's computer back in grade school. Coming from a Mac OS background, it looked downright primitive. The first Windows computer I had ran Windows 95.

Because it was the Blue Screen of Death of OS. Sucked badly. Had it on a few PC's at work and OMG, it was always blue screens and rebooting. Hated it with a passion.
