My dad a had a laptop that dual booted OS/2 and Win 3.1. He needed OS/2 for work, but I mostly used Win 3.1 at home. IIRC, there was one game that I used to boot into OS/2 for.

NT 3.1 here - got the machine from my aunt when I was ~ 8 (1994) was fun to dabble around in, but I kinda hated it. (it was an office machine they had retired)

skipped win95 to win98 with a 400mhz PII gateway and a ATI Rage 128 with 128mb ram ~13gb HD 56k modem - I was the envy of all my friends, with the only computer that would play "modern" games at that time.

Windows 95 for me
I was given a Dell Optiplex Pentium 90Mhz around 1997 that was my first computer ever (I had a Sony WebTV before that though) So the Dell was my first experience with Microsoft Windows

My Widows timeline was 95-98SE-2000-XP-7 (as you can see I skipped a couple of versions notably Windows ME and Vista)

3.11 on a 486. Oddly enough, I have never seen or used Windows ME.

WFW 3.11 baybee.

I've used Win3.11, Win95, Win98, Win2000, WinXP, Vista, and Win7.

My favorites by far were Win95 OSR2 and Windows 2000. Win2k was amazing.

Vista has by far been the most aggravating version of Windows I've used.

I actually like Window7 a lot though. I can see it becoming one of my top favorites.

First computer in family:
386SX 16Mhz, 30Mb HDD, 2Mb ram, DOS 5.0 and windows 3.0, but didn't really use it since the games and Word Perfect were DOS based.

3.1 here. I remember how disoriented I was when 95 came out and Program Manager was nowhere to be found. I think I was a sophomore in HS when we got 3.1.

It was Windows 3.X. It was the first computer my parents bought for the family, a top of the line Tandy from Radio Shack.

My first real computer was a Packard Bell 486 66Mhz with 4MB of ram and a 450MB hard drive. It came with Windows 3.1. A friend of mine knew about computers, he installed a 16MB stick of ram I bought ($80 purchase if I remember correctly... ha!) and I quickly went to Windows 95 very shortly after getting the computer.

Don't know if it has been posted here or not, but I am pretty sure that the old versions of DOS, if you typed winver, version or whatever at the prompt...it reported back to you "Windows XXX" or whatever.

I'm sure there was a reason it was windows 3.1 and not windows 1.

This still works. Even in Windows 7. :ninja:

2.
And boy did it suck.
3.1 was a huge improvement but we still didnt use it for very much. First time we used Windows for everything was Win95. And to play some older games we still had to reboot into full DOS (6.2). Interestingly Win95 didnt come with full DOS. It came with DOS 7, which was actually stripped down and couldnt do much. If you wanted full backward compatibility you had install DOS 6.2 first, then upgrade to Win95 on top of that. Sort of a hassle but backward compatibility has improved a lot over the years.

I still yearn for an OS that can be stipped down and do one thing at a time very efficiently.
Heard stories that some people make slackware distros specifically to play one game, like UT. Apparently it was quite fun.

windows 3.1

I only vaguely remember it, though... it was on the computers in the school library in high school. I only ever recall using it to send emails with some friends from summer camp and use encarta.
