What to name network components. I was thinkin planets but seems soo common.

Setting up bunch of servers recently, so I was gonna rename stuff according to a theme. I was thinking planets, but it's soo old. Any ideas?

Name them after Galaxies... their designation or after the Messier catalog... for example Andromeda = M31 so call one of the things M31 (or just use galaxy names because his 103 objects were numbered 1-103 I think)

I name mine based on the processor 😱. My current machine is C2D-E6600, my old machine is A64-X2-4400, my old-old machine is A64-2800... just hope you don't always build machines using the same processor :laugh:.

Now I know where all the ideas for server names came from where I'm working 😕

At home, they're all fine, but at work...I wish they could just pick a friggin standard and stick with it...how am I supposed to know <<useless funny name here>> is a Solaris host in Phoenix at first glance???

That said, if you must do this type of thing, I'm all for naming servers after politicians. That way, when I don't like what they're doing I can just turn off their power.
