and yeah about frustration of being put in a position where you don't know what you're allowed to do and not to do. ie: confusing ROE's

one more thing, don't the army count the bullets anymore when you get back to base? or is that only in the movies?
As far as round count, the unit was probably still in "blow and go" mode which isn't like a garrison environment. Just get with the 1SG back at the AA and tell him you need more ammo 'cause there was cattle or pigs that wouldn't get out of the way. The crewmen probably had a box or two of 9mm on their track anyway. Additionally, the exact number of rounds one has while running around downrange isn't that big of an issue unless the status is yellow or red.
