Not to mention two of the girls look like they are 12, max. Even though their birth certificates magically say they're 16.

There's no way that several of the Chinese gymnasts are over 14. No way.

So they take them from their families at age 3, and put them into an Olympic machine.

Then lie about their ages.

Ridiculous.

In communist nations there is no freedom, everyone belongs to the state. That's the way they do things.

hooray for uninformed people making conclusions!

you have to also know that a lot of people in interior China are still dirt poor, so their families voluntarily give up their son/daughter if he/she are good enough to practice for the olympic program. This will bring glory to the family and probably will also bring them out of poverty.

families LINE UP to send their offspring, because their offspring would have a better life than if they stayed with the family

Right and this one little girl wanted to go home and wasn't able to. There's plenty in the same situation as her. And most are nearly infants when they're taken from their families.

Dare I say it?

In Soviet China gold medal wins you!

Or something like that...hell I dunno...I haven't had any coffee yet this morning.

Parents sending their kids to better their own life happens everywhere. Comparing the US and Chinese gov't is irrelevant.

Oh how easy it is to judge another culture. China's no saint. But people who grew up in that environment percieve things differently than you and I.

That does not make something right

Sending your kid off to college is one thing. Sending your toddler off to be a tool of the state is quite another.

For all the problems we have in the US(like that parents selling/abandoning their children to buy drugs, school shootings, and other fucked up shit that happens here) I find it hypocritical to trash talk about a country for doing things like this which at least have somewhat(however minimal) of a reasonable explanation.

In the US, we do not need to resort to pawning our kids to the government to win gold medals. We're smart enough to live like kids grow up and use HGH to compete. /sarcasm

I don't recall reading any stories about the US government taking kids away from families and sending them to boarding schools.

Slightly different. Boarding School = Parents want to send their kid away so they don't have to deal with the kids. Willing to pay big bucks for that.

What is the benefit with taking the kids so young? Would it not be better to farm out of the talent pool. That way you can build on natural talent rather than try to forge a hero.

Also why would a 12 year old be better than a 16 year old? are younger girls better at gymnastics..? what is the reason?

Concentration training is a lot more efficient.

as for young kids, think flexibility.

I was never flexible, so I have no frame of reference.
