So you're running around a 15 minute 5k? That seems extremely fast just for a treadmiller.

The world record for a 5k is only a little under 13 minutes, so if Jahee isn't BSing, that would make him a world class runner.

Not world class, but certainly "competitive". That would be about 15:30 for 5000m, which for men is a competitive high school time (in some cases, university too).

My best 5000m (on a track, in spikes, perfect conditions) was 15:23 in my freshman year. So unless Jahee has raced for a club or university team, it's pretty safe to say his estimates are off.

It probably is. From what I've read most of the people posting here are more serious than most when it comes to fitness.

I dunno about you guys, but the mile readings never seem accurate to me. That or treadmills are much easier to me than real miles :p

For some, it's the other way around.

Normally doing a 6.7 (8:57) as my normal pace, only when it's downpouring or inclement weather outside. I'll occasionally do hills/interval training on the treadmill, so that speed varies.

I run @ 6 mph for a mile straight then alternate between 4.3 & 6 until I finish 3.1 miles

I run 7.2 for about 5 miles and then floor it for the last minute or so, like 10 or 11

Currently a couple or 3 miles at 6 mph. Knee issues :) A few years ago I was doing 6 miles at 7.5 mph a few times/week.

Isn't there a recommendation to use a 2% grade on treadmills to emulate running outside? I think to compensate for the difference of running against the moving treadmill versus moving yourself over ground.

I haven't used a treadmill for a while as there is both an indoor (280M) track at the gym and outdoor (400M) track nearby my house. I think my pace on my best 5km is 7.05mph and 10km is 6.55mph. I am a horrible runner though, I don't enjoy it (besides 400M) and have poor technique, 5'10 205lbs /whine /whine /excuses /excuses :).

I've only recently started to realize I somewhat enjoy the 400M and trying to improve my time.

A lot of Treadmills are not accurate...but my average is around 8mph right now. I've been faster and slower depending on where I am at training wise (what I am training for and where in that training I"m at). When I"m not training for anything in particular..8mph is where I'm at.

I dunno about the recommended value but I try to set it at 1.5% so that for exactly that reason.

Yeah I run at 6.6 for 3 miles and then sprint the last 200m. I don't usually go any further cause I'll get bored. Getting ready to switch over to HIIT just cause it makes more sense for my lifestyle (basketball, volleyball, stop and go sports). Plus it's better for fat burning without burning muscle.

For Murph, this meant running the first mile at 9mph and the last one (after 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups & 300 squats) at ~6mph. For Michael, I typically run each 800 at 10mph. In the 400m workout, I got up to 13mph. I ran a 10k recently at 7.4mph. It's all about training with functional movements, at high intensity and with constant variety. :)

jesus christ. 100 pullups? 300 squats? wtf?

They are kipping pulls and air squats but very impressive at the times some people do them nonetheless

Maybe this forum isn't average. When I'm at the gym and actually pay attention to people's speeds I would say that most are in the 5-7mph range, generally more likely to be under 6 than over it.

I've heard maybe one. Personally I find treadmill running harder, possibly due to boredom and possibly because I get much hotter (lack of wind). When I've trained for races almost entirely on the treadmill I have not found any loss in speed when converting from treadmill to road, so in my case treadmill miles are not easier at all.

I've heard the 2% grade recommendation from a guy I work with who used to run for FSU in college. Personally I have had the same experience for you where treadmill running is harder from a psychological standpoint and I really see no difference performance wise when switching between the two...so I don't bother with adjusting the grade.

typically 8.5/8.6mph which is around a slow 7min pace, sometimes i'll bump it up, depends how i'm feeling
