Better to discuss what you actually expect from your smartphone. If it's simplicity, then the iphone would do it. If it's the ability to customize it and use it however you want, then something else.

You can pick up an android phone just fine and use it. I'm sure the millions of people all over the world that chose android over iphone can pick up and use it just fine.
Seriously, macbooks, iphones, ipads feel like alien technology to me. Ive used each once, and had no idea what or how to do anything.
