We're voting on the marriage ban thing here in GA next Tuesday. I'm sure it will pass with flying colors. :roll:Originally posted by: FrustratedUser

I'm curious because I was amazed at the number of people who are so against the Catholic church. I also find it interesting that it's okay and even chic to bash or put down a Catholic yet when someone is against gay marriage...heaven forbid, you are labeled a homophobe, bigot, or worse.
i don't think anyone has a problem with the fact that catholics are against gay marriage. the problem lies more with the fact that many religious feel the need to force the rest of the country to live by their religious beliefs (read: constitutional amendment)

^ how much religous ignorance can fit in one thread?
im a buddhist/christian/hermeticist, i've studied most of the religions of the world and these are the ones that stuck
(On the buddhist side I've studied Theraveda but I prefer Mahayana, On the christian side I lean towards Gnostic/Essene views, As a hermeticist I prefer Franz Bardon and the emerald tablet flavors)
They each have downfalls and advantages. Buddhism is great for the preparation for death and the realization of the ultimate. Christianity is good for belief and value compatibilities. Hermeticism is good for understanding the underlying spirit realities in detail and spiritual advancement. I won't be able to judge the effectiveness of these combinations yet, but the studies i've done have given me a very large referential advantage over say everyone whose posted in the thread so far. Not that i'm an authority but I have studied for years WITHOUT BIAS, so I consider my studies more thorough and honest than most people's. The overwhelming variety of my studies was also enough to make me feel confident enough to share my views without fear of criticism <flamesuit>. I also like taoism quite a bit (The Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu is one of my fave book) I've yet to see a religious/spiritual thread on AT that was worth it's weight in bytes.
I don't really practice these religions in the traditional sense (other than occasional mantra and charity work), mostly I use their insights and essences to influence my mind and decisions. I do hope one day to synthesize them into a practical artform though. Pythagoras said 3 is a perfect number because it can represent the whole from beginning to middle to end, so I tend to apply that logic to my belief structure as well![]()
