I broke my right leg in 3 places playing football. All the breaks were along my ankle and growth plate. I can honestly say that is the most pain I have ever felt.

Completely torn ACL and MCL in my left knee. Unfortunately have no meniscus left either (totally sheared between where the femur and tibia meet). Has been horrid for my tennis game, even after the surgery.

On a lighter note, surgery took place in Birmingham, and while being anesthetized outside the OR, the staff roll up another patient being prepped for surgery (believe on his shoulder). The patient's real name was Terry Bollea; though, most probably know him much better under his alternate surname "Hogan". My then wife apparently spoke to him for quite a while before they wheeled him in as well (do not remember any of it, as the anesthesia kicked in fairly quickly).

This is what a 35# hexhead dumbell does to your foot when dropped from about 2 feet.

Picture

3 smashed toes and a hole in the bottom of my foot.

OUCH!

Ingrown toenail

Reason: Not having any idea what they were or how you got them (cutting toenails incorrectly). Talk about something they might want to tell kids in health class that could actually happen...

Apparently when I was three or so years old I feel face first on the concrete floor. My front teeth cut deep into my inside lower lip. I had to be held down while the doctor stitched it right up.

Thing is, like almost everything that happened in early childhood, I can't recall a single thing. Only sign that it ever happened is this raised scar inside my lower lip.

I've surprisingly never broken a bone or required stitches for that matter (aside from planned surgery like wisdom teeth). When I was really young (probably 2 or 3) I flew off a swing and landed on a sharp stone that went into my chin, still have that scar. Another time when I was young (probably 4-5 now) I was on a sled and almost fell into an icy river (wouldn't have been too serious though, it probably was only a few feet deep) but ended up going straight into a park bench and smacked my forehead up pretty good. More recently, I slipped on some icy pavement and skinned both my knees and hands up pretty good, I was missing skin about the size of a quarter on top of my right hand, still have a very noticeable scar there.

I'm quite lucky never to have been "seriously" injured in my life....no broken bones, no massive skin loss, etc.

Although this summer, while trying to ghetto-rig a trim panel on my car with a Torx screwdriver, I somehow sent said screwdriver clean through my upper lip. I had been "pulling" the screwdriver in my direction, and the panel on the car kinda popped loose.... I felt that it hurt, but didn't think too much of it until I felt the spot with my hand, and noticed I was bleeding. I was spitting out blood for a good 30 minutes after that. Looking in the mirror (after the bleeding had subsided), I could actually see the hole in my lip in the shape of the screwdriver head. :p

That wasn't really all that painful, but it sure was if I tried to eat anything the least bit spicy or even warm for the two weeks following.

And later, I thought - What if the screwdriver hadn't gone through the lip? What if it had been the eye instead? :Q :Q Luckily it was a clean puncture, didn't even disturb any of my teeth, and most importantly, didn't get infected.

Cut three toes off of my left foot with a lawnmower. They're still there for cosmetic reasons only.

One day in the summer between my sophomore and junior years of high school, I was at a friends house. We were tossing a football at one point, then all of a sudden, my friend started throwing these little green apples. I told him to quit as he could hit me in the eye (not thinking it would really happen). Sure enough, on the next throw, BAM! right in the eye. How it hit my eye, I don't know since I was wearing glasses.

Anyway, I went down and someone took me to the optometrist. I couldn't see anything but a big blur out of the eye. The optometrist didn't say anything about what happened or his prognosis. He gave me some cream and asked me to keep the eye shut for two days. When I returned in two days, my vision had fortunately returned. The optometrist was amazed. He said when I was there a few days prior, he thought I'd lose sight in the eye due to severe internal hemorrhaging, but that the eye had healed faster than he'd ever seen or expected. When I looked in the mirror, there was a big red spot next to the iris. That was where the core of the apple struck, so I was lucky the core didn't strike the center of my eye. What made things weird was that my vision went from 20/80 in that eye to 20/35! Unfortunately, the vision returned to 20/80 a few weeks later.

Had a Spiral fracture of the right ring finger. It happened when I was walking my dogs and I slipped down this muddy hill...well myfinger was caught in the leash and I heard this sickining snapping sound. When I lifted up my hand my finger was broke right under the first knuckle and was lahorizontally over my pinky finger. YUM! The funny thing was it did not hurt that much because I was in shock I think.

I then had to hike back 2.5 miles to my car and my ex drove me to the emergency room. Here comes the good part. The doctor informed me that I had a Spiral fracture and it required surgery. I thought to myself ok he will give me a few painkillers and send me home. NO!! He told me he wanted to set my fracture.....OMG you never felet pain like that! The asshole never even gave me any painkillers. My Ex damn near passed out watching him do it.

Next stop was to the bone specialist....this guy was VERY competent and could not believe that other doctor set my finger without and painkillers. the Surgery went smoothly I got 4 dissolvable screws in my finger. The surgery cost 10500 good thing I have insurance :)

After that I had 8 long months of physical therapy. It hurt like hell going through it but at least I have about 95% useage of that finger now.

I was about 12 or so and I was out riding my bike after the rain had stopped. We used to ride for speed and I was peddling down a hill and the back of my bike slid out from under me and I went over the handle bars. hit the pavement and slid about 20 feet and stopped about 2 feet from hitting a tree. I laid there for a few seconds and then proceeded to pick my bike up and walk it back up to my house on top of the hill. I called my mom and told her to come home right away. I was blood and road rash from head to toe.

I dislocated my shoulder waterskiing. I would of drowned if i hadn't had a life jacket on.

anyways, it wasn't your garden variety dislocation. The end of the upper arm bone was nesteled down in my pectoral muscle. That was the only time i have ever had serious pharmacuticals and i will never forget watching the 300 pound orderly pulling my arm while the doctor rotated it back into position.
