Got my right foot crushed when I was 9. When I say crushed, I mean almost amputated.

Very painful, but fortunately no digits or anything lost. The only lingering effect after a year was nerve damage. I can't feel anything on the bottom of my foot, and I can't flex my toes upwards, which means I had to learn to walk kind on the side of my foot. No one notices, and it hasn't hindered me at all. I even got into the Army with it, and with all the running that I used to do there were no ill-effects there either.

I was sitting on the back of my friend's chevette. We were supposed to be heading to a friend's place for a movie that lived maybe 50 feet away, so I stayed up there. Turns out she was driving to someplace else... Needless to say by the time I realized that she wasn't going to the friend's place she was going too fast for me to jump off. Somehow she didn't see me in her rear view mirror and I ended up falling off at 40mph on gravel. She heard me thumping along or saw me in the rear view mirror after I'd fallen off... Her sister came running, screaming at her for killing me. Apparently I was laying in a ditch convulsing. :D And all that happened was 5 stitches and a cuncussion. This was when I was 14.

Torn rotator and broken collarbone from a car accident... I was going down a hill, and the brakeline snapped.. luckily I didn't hit the car in front of me very hard, but I had one hand on the wheel, and one on the stick, and the impact jolted me forward..

Stupid doctor missed it because of swelling too... went back after three months of playing baseball to find this all out...

broken fingers, busted toe, I hit a parked van while riding my bike once... I really wish someone had videotaped it, because I'm sure it looked hilarious...

Well lets see, where to start.

My left knee was broken playing Hacky Sack of all things and I never got it operated on.

I screwed up my left shoulder trying to move a VERY heavy tool box by myself. Never got that operated on either,

My lower back has been bad for about 10 years (Mountain biking did that one)

My neck got messed up while I was in the service. (getting worked over by a few fellow Marines did THAT one) It's never been right since.

Can you tell us more about your Marines story?

Or have you posted about it already? If so, link?

The whole story can be found in this thread

Worst injury was wrestling in elementary school. Fell awkward and broke my collar bone. Sat at the side of the mat for 2 hours til practice was over then made my mom take me to the emergency room.

Most painful injury was also wrestling. In high school broke a finger during a match. Right at the knuckle - it was pretty messed up. It was an important match so I just had coach wrap it in duct tape and I went back out. The guy I was wrestling kept messing with it. Never felt pain so bad.

I just remembered another, at least this one was when I was an adult:

I was clearing off my property with a medium sized tractor with a box blade on the back. I was doing this by backing up to the property line, dropping the blade, then going forward and it was clearing all underbrush, small trees/vegetation and leveling out the ground at the same time. I was dragging all this stuff into one big pile where I was going to dig a huge hole and push all the stuff into it.

Well, I was backing up and the tractor seemed to get hung up on something, which I thought was a stump. Little did I know that a branch about 4 inches in diameter was hung up on the roll bar, and when I gunned it, the branch bent back more and then popped loose toward my head. I thought I had been killed. It felt like I had been hit in the head with a baseball bat as hard as someone could swing it. I was literally knocked silly and couldn't see for a few minutes. I put my hand up to the right side of my head, and since I couldn't feel anything or see anything, I really expected to feel a big hole or at least flesh and my eyeball hanging out.

Turns out I was hit in my right cheek bone which is the thickest bone in the body. I had a classical "boxer's cut", resulting in the flesh being pressed against the eye socket, which rips the skin from the inside out. I got about 30 stitches and a really bad black eye and bruising to my face. My teeth in the right side of my head hurt for weeks, I was afraid I was going to lose some teeth. The scar is minimal today, 10 years later, but it was without a doubt the closest I came to getting killed from an injury.

on my 4th birthday, I was hit by a car while crossing a street, and dragged 100ft by the front of the car. i had a broken femur on my right leg. it broke in half and split out of my skin. so i now i have a scar on my leg where the bone poppped out. i also have scars on my hip and on my forehead, which are much more noticeable when I get a haircut. i had to have plastic surgery done on my forehead as well in order to get it to look okay.

i was in the hospital for 6 weeks, then in a wheel chair for another 8 weeks with a full leg cast on. and man did it get itchy under there! i don't remember it too well, as I am 22 now. I do remember though when I was in the helicopter being flown to childrens hospital in Washington, D.C. and also Nancy Reagan came to visit me too, so that was kind of cool.

and wanna know what my roomate was in there for? his name was Alvin, and he was in there for ... well let's just say he slid down a railing sitting up, but facinig forward ... and there was a ball on the end of the rail. you do the math :). so basically he talked like Alvin the chipmunk after the accident.

EDIT: Here is a pic. You can see the scar on my forehead actually, on the leftside of my forehead, where you see it looks like I have no hair on the top side of my forehead. well I don't have hair there anymore, because of the scar :p but you can see the effects of the scar in the pic.

Well, I got on my bike, strapped my feet in nice and snug, planning to show off my sprint speed. Unable to turn left because of oncoming traffic, I turned right and went about 2 blocks until it was clear to do a u-turn. I sprinted to show off. Right in front of the house where the birthday party was, my chain snapped. I was still standing and pumping with all my might... I was easily into the 30's at that point. My weight was thrown forward. I went over my handlebars. Did I mention my feet were attached to the pedals? After I passed the bike, it realized that it had to follow me and decided to pass me... Then me past the bike and bike past me, and again.

Witnesses said I did 3 cartwheels in front of them down the road, bouncing off the curb once and through a driveway. The child seat on my bike may have saved me from a broken neck or something - it was pile-driven into the ground at one point. Once I came to a stop, both sets of straps for my feet (and they're pretty strong) had snapped in half. I stood up to attempt to walk it off - my kneecap was perpendicular to my leg. (I made it about 4 steps before dropping to the ground) We suspect now that I may have had a small fracture on my shoulder, but from all the other injuries, that appeared least likely to be broken (and wasn't one of the dozen x-rays taken). Nonetheless, it bothered me for 5 or 6 months. Thank God I was wearing a helmet... my helmet was shattered.

Holy crap, that must've been something to watch.

Meh, Crab wins, but I get second place: I gave birth twice without any pain meds.

Other than that, when I was 6, I was taking swimming lessons at the local pool and decided to try jumping in the pool facing backwards because other kids were doing it. Next thing I know, I was in my doctor's office getting the underside of my chin stitched up. I had hit my chin on the concrete edge of the pool, and my teacher found my lifeless body floating in a pool of blood face down. They had to drain the whole pool to clean it up, heh.

Hmm, I fell over a broom in the kitchen back in 2000 and landed on my arm funny. My doctor thought I broke my arm at the shoulder, but after x-raying it, found that I just "tore the hell out of it" as he said. Had a 5 month old baby at the time, man it was hard to breastfeed with a hurting shoulder in one of those soft cast-like things that immobilizes your arm. Still hurts sometimes.

I cut the end of my left index finger off with an exacto knife about 3 years ago.

I cut a small vein in my left middle finger with hand pruners at work on a friday once, and didn't want to go to the doctor/hospital, so it bled for several days. Still got a scar from that.

When I was about 9 or so, I spent the night at my best friend's house, and we made caramel corn with her mom. Her mom accidently poured molten sugar/butter mixture on my right hand. My middle finger still has a big scar from that. Burns hurt bad.

On the first day of fifth grade, I went home after school and was running in the yard barefoot and ran a steak or pork bone (a t-shaped one with a sharp point on it) that someone gave our dog through the bottom of my foot. Blood spurted a foot or two everytime my heart beat, it was pretty cool. They gave me a big shot right into the bottom of my foot (tetanus).

That's all I can think of right offhand.

When I was 14 or so, I was practicing martial arts by smashing my hand in the form of a "claw" into sands. Turned out there was a big rock underneath the sands. And it broke my middle finger. Took a month to heal.

I cracked my skull when I was 3. I guess I fell out of bed onto a hotel floor which was just carpet over hard concrete w/o padding.

I was also dropped on my head onto the corner of coffee table. I barely remember it, but I have a scar on my forehead from it. I'm not sure how old I was when that happened.

I guess I've made it through a few head injuries.

Doberman Pinscer bit my a good portion of my face off when I was 3 because I sprayed it with a garden hose. Had to have reconstructive facial surgery. Only a couple visibile scars left from it now, though.

Also broke my back playing soccer in highschool. Luckily it didn't do much nerve damage. Two lumbar vertebrae fused together afterward, so my rotation sucks, and if I over-rotate I easily get stress fractures and pinched nerves :(

A few Christmas' ago I was opening a Socket Set that my wife got me. All the sockets were shrink-wrapped together, so I got out my knife and held the bag up with my thumb and forefinger of my left hand. I stuck the knife through the plastic and cut to my right. I shredded the plastic and managed to take the tip of my left forefinger off as well.

We got the bleeding stopped and went to the in-laws for Christmas breakfast, but a few hours later it was throbbing in pain so I spent the afternoon in the emergency room.

Unfortunately it was an evulsion so all they could do is pack it. No stitches.

Heh, so I'm not the only one to pull that trick. I just bandaged it really well and dealt with the pain.

I have been very fortunate. I have only had one injury worthy of mentioning in my 36 years. I did thake pictures though.

This is what a 35# hexhead dumbell does to your foot when dropped from about 2 feet.

Picture

3 smashed toes and a hole in the bottom of my foot.

I just thought of another one. I was probably about 7yo. Me and my brother of similar age were making a fort in our bedroom with bed sheets. One end of a sheet I placed under a very large steel mechanized bank. It was very old - probably about 20lbs. Being the smart kid that I was, I managed to have that bank land right on top of my head - about a 4 foot drop. I got the corner of it right on the crown of my head and it knocked me out COLD for about 10 minutes. I woke to my mom screaming and blood everywhere. I had a pretty severe concusion, but no permanent damage. I still have a divot in my head that's about 6mm deep.
