I'd make a point to save my work laptop, though, since the paperwork to replace it would be a serious pain in the ass.
The cat is hopefully smart enough to escape on his own if I leave the door open on the way out. He follows me around where ever I go anyway!

The laptop has a lot of pictures and the like that are irreplaceable. My wife has a wooden jewelry chest that was also handmade by my grandfather that she would hopefully be carrying. The entertainment center is all insured so I'd let it burn (yes, even the Studio 40s). Honestly I don't understand why people would save semi-easily replaceable or still available items.
