What is wrong with kids today?

This just baffles me. When I was in school I couldn't of dreamed of physically attacking a school bus driver or a teacher. The thought would never have crossed my mind. What has changed that this is happening and seemingly from the story happening too often.

"He was punching me in the face and head"

February 4, 2002 -- It can be one of the most frustrating, dangerous jobs in metro Atlanta: public school bus drivers.

On a daily basis they face not only the hazards of the highway, but the taunting, the threats, even attacks from some of the children who ride their buses.

This special assignment report begins with the latest on veteran Fulton County bus driver Lynda Clanton. She's still recovering from a savage confrontation with a child on her bus three months ago.

"He was punching me in the face and head," she recalls. "His knee was hitting me in the chest and the stomach. When I looked up, that's when he bit me."

Now 17 stitches later, after a massive infection, and several surgeries, Clanton remains unable to go back to work.
......
The drivers that spoke to us said they felt like they were under siege, not only from some of the children but from parents and the school administrations themselves.

"The kids would laugh at you," said Deborah Warren. "Go ahead and write me up. They aren't going to do anything to me," she said is the attitude of many students.

"There is no fear."

It never crosses my mind either. Or 99.99% of the students out there. Don't make broad sweeping generalizations about my generation.

I'm sure it happened in your day too, but they probably didn't report it as much. Somehow, I imagine Columbine may have changed things a bit.

EDIT: But yes, of course, this kid is a freak and should be jailed.

holy shizzles! kids these days, gotta learn some respect. Man, this generation isn't looking too bright these days.

Agreed 😛

It's pretty bad. Here in Toronto, two teenage girls (17yrs of age I think) stabbed a taxi driver for no reason! The taxi driver survived and the girls got charged (I think..forgot the details).

Yeah, I remember the days on the bus. The drivers would be caged in and surrounded by a protective cube of clear plexiglass. We would always break into there and beat the living crap out of the driver, hijack the vechile and go for a joy ride only to be brought down by the cops and taken back to our parents. Now I have to walk because there are no more drivers. Boo friggin hoo

I blame MTV. Those bastards ruin those young minds.

Man, her face is all messed up.

It didn't say age of the attacker, but he need his ass beaten.

I think it will be just matter of time before installing cameras and security guard on the bus.

No surprise. So many of todays kids are being raised by "kids"..wana be adults who never grew up them selves. They had kids because it was simply the next thing to do in their gratuitous lives. Think about that while you dump your kids in day care this morning.

You post seems to be a contradiction. Columbine changed things and don't make broad sweeping generalizations about your generation.

Read the article, this is not an isolated incident.

Actually, I think kids these day are more gifted and talented than they were 40 years ago. It's just a few out of control freak-shows with deadbeat parents that give us all a bad name.

I would say to you KhoiFather:

holy shizzles! adults these days, gotta learn how to raise children. Man, that generation isn't looking too bright these days.

Diamond, I don't disagee with you. The parents are also to blame.

But, does bad parenting alone explain the violence of the attacks?

neither were the violent crimes that a few kids in your generation committed. i'd have to agree with johnjohn and say that 99.99% of the students in my school havn't had the thought of attacking a faculty member either.

It said he was 14. The driver was a woman, little punk probably thought he was a big man at the time now he faces jail time. We'll see how tough he is when Leroy and Bubba want a peice of him.

The twentysomething generation was probably all around worse.

I don't know, I suppose it just depends. I just think that the comment bu KhoiFather was fricken retarded and typical of and old geiser with issues against younger people like myself.

It's obviously Marilyn Manson and Doom's fault

Of course.

😛

It's the parents' fault, plain and simple. Only the parents have the power and influence to completely shape a child's worldview and outlook on life.
