I don?t know guys. I?m not saying that every young kid out there is prone to violence. I do see more violent acts now then I remember in the past. Perhaps it?s the internet and I just see more and it was happening this much in the past. I really don?t think that is the case though.

But, does bad parenting alone explain the violence of the attacks?
It's obviously Marilyn Manson and Doom's fault

Of course.

:p

It's the parents' fault, plain and simple. Only the parents have the power and influence to completely shape a child's worldview and outlook on life.

Yup, even with good parenting, if their child go berserk for no apparent reason, it's still parents fault for not predicting irrational behavior of their child.:p

I think nowadays, weapons (guns and knives) are used more frequently than in the past and of course media coverage is greater.
But one thing I do notice is that there is tremendous lack of respect for elders now, for example, when I was a kid, the grown up in
my neighborhood were able to discipline us without fear of getting sued or arrest so we minded our attitude but you don't see that as much if at all.

Crime is WAY up. Look at the data for Kansas. I suspect it mirrors other states:

Kansas Crime 1960 - 2000

I'd be curious to see juvenile crime statistics.

Well Slow, I think it's funny that you are a "Senior Member" here on AT....I was just wondering, are you a "Senior Citizen" too? Times have changed, and maybe the violence is no good, but I think it's a positive thing to have our children around without being disciplined by the senile old man next door.

Over winterbreak some kid was all OD'ed on mushrooms, got into our school, the janitor called the cops. The cops came, it took 5 cops 20 minutes to take this kid down. He lost all his wrestling scholarships. Hes pretty stupid if you ask me:-/

What if I'm a senior citizen, are you going to threat me with violence? I never said we were disciplined with violence, did I? Discipline comes in many forms.

Maybe it isn't as bad as I thought. From a 2000 report.

OJJDP Released New Report Showing Youth Crime Down Again
On December 14th, the Attorney General released the latest juvenile crime statistics showing a decrease in juvenile crime for the sixth straight year in a row. The Department of Justice (DOJ) reports a 68% decline in the juvenile arrest rate for murder in the U.S. from 1993 to 1999, reaching its lowest level since 1966. The juvenile arrests rate for violent crime overall dropped 36% from 1994 to 1999 and is the lowest since 1988. The report, "Juvenile Arrests 1999" released by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), analyzes data from the FBI's 1999 Uniform Crime Reports. The report also shows a 31% drop in rape from 1999 to 1999, the lowest since 1980; a 53% decline in robbery from 1994 to 1999, the lowest since 1980; a 24% drop in aggravated assault from 1994 to 1999, the lowest since 1989; a 39% decline in the juvenile arrest rate for weapons law violations, the lowest since 1988; and a 23% drop in the juvenile arrest rate for property crime from 1997 to 1999. The "Juvenile Arrests 1999" report is available on the OJJDP website at http://ojjdp.ncjrs.org.

kids will blame the adults, adults blame the kids, the middle blaming society and on and on...

where ever you go, when ever the time period, i'm pretty sure there will always be people like that...

I guess you see it more these days because of the "me-first" attitude and the "freedom" to "express" one's self...

Surprisingly, no one has blamed Bush.

When I was in elementary school we had a strict math teacher. One day some kid was screwing off and he grabbed the kid up off his feet and held him against the wall. Now, that kid may or may not have had a lasting experience there but I can tell you the rest of the class behaved very well for the rest of the year.

It's the lack of disciple in schools (kids know they can get away with nearly anything) combined with out-of-touch parents who possess little or no ability to guide kids let alone themselves. Top it off with today's kids being overly proficient at filtering anything they don't care for...TV has taught them how....and you have more kids out of control.

etch, I'd be curious to see data from 1960 to 1970 or so as a comparison. I couldn't find it.

I gre up in the late '60 - 70's and there's no way it was like this.

Not exactly. What happens when the kid gets a hold of the shotgun and shoots the bus driver.....then the whole bus crashes into the lake and all the little kids who can't swim drown and all the other kids die of hyplthermia in the dead of winter.
I'll take a few punches and a nasty bite in the face over that fate.

Well then we'll just get remote controlled buses then. Since drivers get beat up and don't do anything about it ...

Speaking of remote control vehicle...Because I'm working on unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) program, I had to talk to
one of the engineers assigned to the NASA, and he told me that they have progressed quite a bit on
Unmanned vehicle (automobile) program and we shared some data concerning remote control for his vehicle and
my air vehicle, the development of their program is pretty impressive. This doesn't have anything to do with
this thread just general info for those interested.;)

If the bus driver had punted the little sh!t right through the window he and his mother would be at their lawyers now suing the bus driver, the school and the state of Georgia for enough money to live on the rest of their lives.

At least I imagine that they would. Does anyone disagree?
