What is the worst freeway in your area!?

they've needed to widen that freeway for the last 20 years. the only time they widened it they didn't add any concrete, they just repainted the lanes and made them narrower to squeeze in a 4th lane.



I-35 north at about 4 pm on friday afternoon from the north part of austin all the way up to georgetown is just packed. but houston traffic is still worse.

880 - the rudest freeway in the Bay Area. Lots of road rage happening every day.

10 years ago, when I last lived in San Diego, "rush hour" was an hour.

Now the I-5 especially N is a continual traffic jam - worsens at 3 PM till past 7 PM - from the 805 merge past Oceanside (even the weekends bring it to a stall with all the vacation traffic between LA and SD).

The new H-3 is supposedly cursed and was built on sacred ground. The signs are poorly marked (last time I checked) and it is easy to get on it and travel across the island (no exits, no turnarounds) :|

You think the 405 is bad? It usually just bad around the LAX area. 5 is pretty damn bad in Orange county too. A little north of where it meets the 22 when the 5 or so lanes turns into 3? Oh man......

Not that I travel it often, but US Hwy 192 and State Road 520.

I think about 20 people or so die every year on each road because they misjudge passing distance and the state hasnt had the bucks to widen the whole thing.

Any and all roads that are over 4 lanes (8 total) are horrible. Specifically the 16 trillion lanes of 85/75 between the splits on a Friday after 1pm. If you are from Atlanta you know EXACTLY what I mean.

Here in the Montreal area, the Decarie (15) and Metropolitan highways are probably the worst. The other highways aren't usually congested. The bridges are the exception, and they often get clogged up at rush hour. Both highways are 3 lane on each side as are most in the area. City is 3.2M including suburbs. I guess you Americans have to deal with a lot more traffic cause your cities are so damn big

The H1 highway is horrible. During rush hour, it took me almost an hour to get to the other side of the island.

The very thought of Interstate Highways on Oahu has always amused me!

Wilson Bridge can be backed up coming from Maryland much more so then going eastward on it. And 50 on the weekends in summer at either end of the Bay Bridge *cringes*

Well, they were built with Federal Funds . . . perhaps someday they will connect the Mainland . . . :Q

H3 is still one of the very best way to get from the Winward to the Leeward side of Oahu. The Likelike or the Pali Highways are far worse at rush hour than the H1 (and don't forget to pack some 'pork for the Pali')

At least "traffic" on Oahu is confined mostly to AM and PM rush hours. However, the State "traffic control" is a joke - they just have no clue - it's like an Oriental System imposed on a Western freeway.

You're joking right? Well to me, H3 is the best on the island. Very good condition and I've never hit traffic on it yet. Which sign is poorly marked? they even have those digital signs warning you if someone up ahead is pulled over on the shoulder. Not sure about the sacred ground..I've spoken with more than a couple of Hawaiians that worked on the project who said they were very concious not to disrupt the heiau's. Of course there's always going to be disagreement about that highway. But if there's areason to dislike it, its gotta be because it was so expensive at over a million a mile... but I'll gladly take H3 over H1 any day..


Edit: Just for those curious...they aren't called interstates here (for obvious reasons) and if you make it from say, Kapolei to Hawaii Kai or even town in less than an hour on a weekday morning, you must have a presidential motorcade working for you.

I really hate the 880 to 237 interchange, it is always backed up no matter what time of day.
Any stretch of 101 near San Francisco is bad during rush hour.

We were in Kailua, just off S. Kaleheo by the canal there and rarely had to to into Honolulu (Dillingham) during rush hour. Mostly we would just take Kalanianaole down through Waimanalo, Hawaii Kai, and Aina Haina (saw Tom Selleck shooting 'Magnum' there once!) just for the scenery.

We were, after all, on 'Hawaiian Time'! - God, I miss that place!!

H1, H2 and H3 were referred to as Interstates when I was there.

Interstate 66 without a doubt. It is the magic road that gets narrower the closer it gets to the population center. Government planning at its finest.
