All anime, of course, but the worst, by far, from my childhood:
--snip--

While I agree most modern day anime sucks, surely this is a blanket statement. Cowboy Bebop resists the suckiness that is the pitfall of life for nerds and premature minds of children.

As for a terrible cartoon character, I would have to say:

Terrible woman, made my inner youth furious with rage for the amount Popeye had to put up with.

I don't like Japanese animation. Old, new, it doesn't matter. I liked all the cartoons I grew up with on some level. I hated the 80s cartoons for the most part. My friend's little brother liked He Man. Shit animation imo. My favorite stuff is from the 30s-50s, especially the "one time" cartoons that didn't have recurring characters.

The only anime series I actually like is Cowboy Bebop. It's just good sci-fi. It DOES have some of the silliness that turns me off (the Ed character), but it's MUCH more tolerable than it is in other anime.

Katsuhiro Otomo's Memories is one of the only anime films I enjoy. It's three short films, but I only enjoyed the first two that weren't even directed by Otomo (Magnetic Rose and Stink Bomb). I don't even like the Miyazaki flicks that people revere so much.

I wouldn't say he was the WORST, but 7-zark-7 from Gatchaman was up there in lameness. He had another name before that, it escapes me.

I'd have to say that He-man is the most blatantly homosexual character of all. Not that I have a problem with that. I'm just saying.

I thought that Towelie was billed as the worst character ever (South Park).

My vote goes to the original Birdman. Harvey Birdman: AaL is awesome-sauce.

I think that was a jab at Pokemon, which had an episode that did that in Japan.

HBAAL takes all of the ones mentioned here and spoofs them.

Apache Chief not being able to grow after spilling a StarB's coffee in his lap, etc etc....

Oh, and Marvin was THE DUMBEST character ever.

Some others may be annoying (Scrappy Do) or kind of one dimensional (the whole Betty Boop/Popeye, early cartoons), but some are just plain bad.

What about ones that were set up to sell something?

Like Street Fighter (where they all wore trench coats, with their original costumes underneath, for disguise. Worked GREAT for Blanka...) or MASK?

Go go gadget idiots!

There are quite a few others that also fit that role, although some are more silly that others.

Another example of a good plot is Monster. A story of a doctor that saves a kids life, only to find that he is a genious psycopath that kills left and right (sometimes by his own hand, sometimes by others). Now he goes to track him down... or is he just being led along?

Also, ones like Death Note are great to watch, although the ending is a little disappointing.... (I think it lost me at about mid-series... if you watch it you will know exactly when I am talking about...).

As for Bugs Bunny? Foghorn? They were the all time greats. Pre 1970's that is. They had characters based on actual movie characters. They were spoofs in and of themselves and constantly made pop culture and literary references seasoned with a bit of mallet-to-the-skull for those that did not get it.

Tiny Toons picked up much later, then fell off when they started going Enviro-Cruisader, and then Animamiacs came after that (all WB, not Disney...).

There were some others like Freakazoid (I loved Ed Asners character in that), but there are just so few that are entertaining for kids but can still make an adult laugh....
