I spent $1000 on a laptop. I need it, but I only use it for an hour or two a week. Feels like a waste.

32" Olevia HDTV

Returned it after a few weeks though, so don't know if that counts

I never opened it if you were wondering

there is probably something else, but i can only think of this

i bought Microsoft flight simulator about 3 years ago and never opened it

Probably my laptop. Its hard drive is so damned slow compared to my PC, it just feels horrible to use. And my PC has all my data on it, so I don't really need the laptop for much of anything, except when my desktop decides to have problems, like last semester when a bulging cap disabled my PC.

PC: 4 x 7200rpm drives in RAID 5 = excellent seek times, and amazing read speeds
Laptop: 1 x 5400rpm drive (maybe 4200rpm, I don't remember) = painfully slow seek times, and sluggish read speeds

My rig. It's about 1-1/2 years old, but when I bought it it had everything just a tad below the best for overclocking heaven. But even though other people with the same configuration had it going well, I was stuck with "infinite loop error" problems. Up until today I haven't found a solution anywhere other than using default windows drivers for my video card to keep my machine stable. It's been a really expensive internet machine that still crashes. 🙁

first thing that came to my mind as well

ill say a parallel port zip drive i bought

i backed up some files on it once or twice, between the drive and the media i had about 150 bucks in it (this was almost 10 years ago i guess) and i never used it again.

dog slow, and the driver floppy was no good (they were outdated and didnt work with win 98 or some such) and the replacement driver was over 1.44 meg so it wouldnt *fit* on a floppy which absolutely killed the portability of the thing

this also counts as the stupidest purchase ive ever made

Probably my Marshall VS100 and 4x12" Marshall cabinet.. about $750 IIRC. Unfortunately I just can't find time to play anymore 🙁

Well, technically speaking... I don't "use" baseball cards, so I will submit the $10-$12K I spent on rare cards last year. However that probably doesn't satisfy the spirit of the question but it's all I can think of.

And to the guy who said "31 years of auto insurance premiums"....
