I really like Santa Fe by Jon Bon Jovi, but I know there has to be other songs that I like with violins. I just can't think of them right now.

The only song I could take by ELO was "Love is Like Oxygen"

I think "Human" by Metallica had violin in it...

And as KarenMarie already mentioned... ELO has some violin. "Showdown" is a good song :).

ELO "Livin' thing"

Sailin' away on the crest of a wave
It's like magic
Rollin' and ridin' and slippin' & slidin'
It's magic

CHORUS
And you, and your sweet desire,
You took me, higher and higher
It's a livin' thing,
It's a terrible thing to lose
It's a given thing
What a terrible thing to lose.

Making believe this is what you've conceived
From your worst day,
Moving in line when you look back in time
To your first day

CHORUS -- repeat

Takin' a dive 'cos you can't halt the slide
Floating downstream,
So let her go don't start spoiling the show
It's a bad dream

CHORUS -- repeat

Best rock song with violins...
Hrm. Nightwish - Ghost Love Score. Actually, it's a full traditional rock band + synth + full orchestra + full chorus.

I'd upload it somewhere, but it's a freaking 8 minute song. Then again, it could be worse, I could upload the 20min versio.n

Anyone with a lot of bandwidth? :p The band openly supports free internet radio and does promos for at least one "station", so I don't think there'd be much beef over some MP3s. Then again, their publisher is RIAA. Damn gray areas :p

The band Nightwish has Tarja, who has perhaps the greatest singing voices of any rock or metal band in the history of music (she's actually an extremely talented Opera singer.)

Listen to the song Swanheart off of the Oceanborn CD They have some great violin parts in there. It's a somewhat low energy song, however, it emotionally charges me.

The song "The Siren" on their Once CD is a lot heavier and faster paced, they have some really cool violin solos in that song too, though it's also loaded with guitars, drums, etc.

Also, be sure to check out ANY of the accoustic tracks by Epica. The song "Feint", is piano dominated, however, there are some decent minor violin parts in it. The singing is somewhat in the same style as Nightwish. It's epic atmospheric melodic beautiful stuff.

Though this isn't rock, (it's a mix of classical, folk, and metal) ... Anything by the band "Haggard" is really really kickass. The CD "Awakening the Centuries" is pure brilliance.

Since some of you may have never heard Haggard before, here's an info page about them.
http://www.bnrmetal.com/groups/hagg.htm

They have violins in most of their songs.

There's also the cheesy 80s metal band Manowar. The song Courage, has some decent violin parts in it too. I'd recommend a listen, they are a great, but cheesy band.

There's a lot more in the Metal world, though I can't speak for non-metal (though I know a thing or two about classical ..... Beethoven's 9th .... Pure Bliss)

HAHAHAHAH ...
After I hit post ... I see EyeMWing's post about "Ghost Love Score". He hit the nail on the head.

Holy sh!t, another male Nightwish fan. I thought there were only two of us that actually listened to the music, and the rest stared at Tarja.

Devil went down to Georgia has some nice violin...a lot of things by Yellowcard...and actually while thinking about this that one SR-71 song came to mind..."Right Now"...doesn't have any violin actually but the guitar solo sounds suspiciously similar to strings. Omg I just rambled off 5 s-words right there...I'm the man. I'm the man.

Actually, I know of another one, one of the guys at work borrowed one of my Nightwish CDs a few years back. The day after he borrowed it, he gave it back and said he wasn't going to need to borrow any more of their stuff because he had already ordered their entire catalog.

Don't get me wrong. I like how Tarja looks too :)
But honestly, I'm all about the music, and this is truly great music.

I'd just like to point out, that I think this is because Mp3s have actually really helped Nightwish to become a pretty well known band. If it wasn't for mp3's I probably wouldn't have bought 90% of the CDs that I have as I would have never heard many of the bands.
