Wow, if you like DDR music more than guitar hero then it sucks to be you. Good luck with your techno clubs bud.

it's for people who want an excuse to "be cool" and spend time learning a game that mimics an instrument instead of getting off their lazy asses and use the same amount of time to learn the real thing

I played it twice, thought it was cool but too gimmicky so I bought a real guitar and took lessons instead.

No matter what so-called "gamers" tell you, it is the very DEFINITION of a "casual game" (one with appeal that goes far beyond the typical "core gamer"). Because of this, you hear a lot more people praising it who have no frame of reference. Regardless, the game is still fun even for many hard-core gamers.

I just bought the game used in the FS/FT forum. I got GH III for PC.
I agree that it's more fun to play with other people. I first played on PS3 with some friends and the co-op was cool.
I beat the game on easy the first night I got it and was sad to see the songs stay the same on medium just faster with extra notes to play. I might not get back into it. Ugh, one weekend and losing interest.

the phony musical instrument playing bugs me as well.
killing aliens in space is something you can't really do in real life.
so gaming is fine.
but fake guitar playing pretty f**king lame

It makes mediocre people feel like they've achieved something.

The first time I played Rock Band, I was bored, and I was playing with 2 other friends, who though it was great. I had no fun playing it. It was almost sad just strumming the little plastic thing while pressing the buttons. It just didn't give me a sense of satisfaction, and it just felt really weird to be standing there with that tiny plastic thing.
The reason I like DDR is that, its so much more intense. Other than having more interesting sequence of dot things, they tend to be shorter, which means that the devs have an excuse to put 30 second long non stop steps that exhaust you.
The songs in rock band dragged on for such a long time, and became really annoying.

Then you must also hate most racing, sports, and FPS games as well, right? Those are all games featuring activities that can be done in real life (but hopefully you'd at least limit your FPS activities to a military career)
"America's Army? Why would I play a game about being a soldier when I can just go down the street and sign up??"

lol seriously... picking up an instrument is something you can do in your room.
driving a race car is NOT something easily done.
games like racing games attempt to be decent simulations.
guitar hero is basically a ridiculous version of a preschool game.
