i have a wide taste in music, and the music played in GH is some of it. but my argument is that it's repetetive. the music in there is more mainstream and pretty normal imo. same shit i hear all the time on the radio and when i'm at any party or anywhere

Something Wonderful by L.E.D. is still my favorite DDR song. I also have heard some fun songs in DDR that I've purchased online. I usually buy Guitar Hero and Rock Band for songs that I've already heard (but like), so I can understand where you're coming from.

Even with all the issues that I've posted about with concern to Dance Dance Revolution Universe 3 and my XBOX 360 (which I detailed in the console forums), I found a pretty cool song on there too.

I just bought the game used in the FS/FT forum. I got GH III for PC.

I agree that it's more fun to play with other people. I first played on PS3 with some friends and the co-op was cool.

I beat the game on easy the first night I got it and was sad to see the songs stay the same on medium just faster with extra notes to play. I might not get back into it. Ugh, one weekend and losing interest.

Uh, or for people who don't have any desire to learn "the real thing," but still want something fun.

I assume that instead of playing Clue, you actually got a degree in Criminal Law and Investigation? And rather than playing Pictionary, you attended New York Academy of Art? Risk? No sir. Graduated West Point and become Brigadier General! Why waste time with Monopoly, when you can become a wealthy real estate tycoon?

In short, 99% of every game that people play is a watered-down, fun version of some real-life activity.

I've never heard a hardcore gamer say anything related to casual/hardcore gaming for guitar hero...

The only people who dislike it subscribe to the "why don't you just learn real guitar" idea. Sure, maybe I'll go teach myself archery and swordplay while I'm at it. Heck, why don't I also become a real surgeon, race car driver, and street fighter? Or maybe I'd rather have fun playing a fake guitar than put the work into learning how to play a real one

It only takes a minute to learn how to play the fake guitar. Did it really take you a minute to learn how to play a real guitar? If so, that's pretty impressive! You should write a book on that.

Seriously, maybe I have no interest in learning how to play a real guitar, and maybe I have even less interest in the large time commitment required. Maybe I want to hit some buttons on a controller in predictable patterns and hear rock classics come out, complete with vocals, drums, bass etc. Maybe I don't want to quit my job so that I can assemble a full rock band and practice enough to be able to play these songs.

That's one problem with these rhythm games, it's easy to lose interest when you're not playing with friends. But damn if they're not sensational with a group

Then you must also hate most racing, sports, and FPS games as well, right? Those are all games featuring activities that can be done in real life (but hopefully you'd at least limit your FPS activities to a military career :p)

"America's Army? Why would I play a game about being a soldier when I can just go down the street and sign up??"

The first time I played Rock Band, I was bored, and I was playing with 2 other friends, who though it was great. I had no fun playing it. It was almost sad just strumming the little plastic thing while pressing the buttons. It just didn't give me a sense of satisfaction, and it just felt really weird to be standing there with that tiny plastic thing.

The reason I like DDR is that, its so much more intense. Other than having more interesting sequence of dot things, they tend to be shorter, which means that the devs have an excuse to put 30 second long non stop steps that exhaust you.

The songs in rock band dragged on for such a long time, and became really annoying.

I always liked DDR even though I sucked at it cause atleast I felt like I was dancing.

I don't really see the appeal in pressing buttons in rhythm though, GH reminds me of that Simon Says game from back in the day, press multi-colored buttons in order. Being good at GH is like being good at typing fast, its just muscle memory. I find games with atleast some elements of strategy or skill to be more fun, but then again the only game I play now is Gears 2.

I always hated DDR even though I never tried it cause dancing that doesn't involve dancing with a woman... is just gay. Why the fuck would I want to dance around by myself? I'll never do it for real and I'll never play the game.

Guitar hero was fun. Rock Band is fun. I've only played for a few hours by myself and usually play with friends or on a date. It's always a good time. I usually play the drums or sing.

On a side note, for all you people who say that people should just play the real instrument instead of playing the game you need to just relax. I played Rock Band for like a year and then I bought a real drum set. It took like 5 minutes to adjust before I could play some pretty good beats and learn a few fills. I guarantee if it wasn't for playing rock band that it would have taken a lot longer to learn any kind of drumming skills. Rock band is still fun though.

I've played guitar for roughly 15 years, including in semi-professional bands, and I still think Guitar Hero is really fun.

lol seriously... picking up an instrument is something you can do in your room.

driving a race car is NOT something easily done.

games like racing games attempt to be decent simulations.

guitar hero is basically a ridiculous version of a preschool game.

none whatsoever to me. i actually did the same thing the OP did...bought guitar hero 3 (ps3) and sold it here on FS/FT a while back. just cant get into it.

i can honestly understand rockband, and now with guitar hero world tour, i think thats just a blatant ripoff.

I play every now and again. It is fun. Better in a group setting. Personally I can't standing FPS on a console so I'm limited in cool games.
