What is an average amount of vacation/sick days?

Hey I just got confirmed that I will be full time at my job next month. Along with this comes 22 vacation days and 14 sick days.

That sounds like a lot to me, what is the point of each? Do sick days or vacation days carry over usually? I haven't asked them the exact details yet....

I get 24 PTO days (+5 'summer fridays' that need to be used between Memorial day and Labor day) which serve as both.

Days carrying over will depend on company policy but often these days, they do not.

Started my first FT job out of college in March and got 10 days (8 vaca, 2 personal) and unlimited sick leave. I should've gotten 10 vaca and 3 personal, but since I started later than 1/1, they pro-rated it. I'm jealous, OP. I can only take a few long weekends this year.

Thats an eff load.

That's pretty high.

I've been at my job for about 3.5 years and I still have the 20 total days (vacation and sick) I started with. I get another 5 days after 5 years, but that's where it stops (unless I negotiate more).

The carry-over varies from place to place. We just have PTO days that we can use as either vacation or sick time. They don't carry over. Fiancee is a teacher and her sick days carry over, but vacation days do not.

i just started a new job about 4 months ago... and i get 2 weeks vacation, and 5 sick days plust 3 'float days' .. personal days i can use for whatever

the vacation days carry over, but the sick/float do not.

I'd say a typical number for starting out is something around 10 vacation days plus holidays and 5 sick days. Your package looks pretty good. Some jobs allow for vacations/sick accrual, others don't.

I currently get 10 vacation (accruable to 30), 10 holiday (6 official, 4 flexible) and unlimited sick (accruable to 130 days...no short-term disability). Increased time on the job results in more vacation time.

My last job, with a university, was 22 vacation (accruable to 44), 15 sick (accruable to 30), all the post-office holidays, plus an extra week around Xmas. It was pretty awesome.

6 figures of course...

But really yeah, its a state job so what do you expect.. I guess I'll just be less mad about being taxed out the ass.

I think that is very high.

I get 10 days per year (plus 2 floating holiday so really 12 days), until 3 or 5 years of service to get 15 days. It jumps up to 20 days after longer service.

We can also buy up to a week of vacation which is basically unpaid time off.

I get about 12 paid vacation and 12 paid sick. I also get the 10 federal holidays paid.

It will be another 2.5 years before that gets up to 18/18. Then 12.5 years for 24/24

My first company I worked for I got 25 PTO days...At my current company, I get 12 PTO days and 12 sick days. Plus, since we work about 4 Sundays a year during quarter-end, my boss gives us those 4 to use as extra PTO days if/when we need to (so total 16 PTO days per year).

I get 15 "official" vacation days, and unlimited sick/personal days

one of those honor system "don't abuse it" type things

Sounds like holidays count as vacation days. So two weeks vacation plus the normal vacation days.

I know of a place that did that. So, OP does the vacation days include holidays? If it doesn't include holidays, you got a really good deal.

I get 10 days vacation + 1 or 2 personal holidays depending on the holiday schedule. Also unlimited sick leave. At 5 years it goes to 15 days, At 10 years and each year after you get another day, up to 20 total Vacation days.

The 10 days is a bit frustrating, but once it goes to 15 + unlimited sick it is going to be quite nice.

holy shit that's alot

in the previous job i got 5 days vacation after 1 year, no sick (lol), salary though
new job 5 vac days, 3 float holidays, 10 sick, + assorted days off during the year for the lulz. vac days increase with seniority
