What is an average amount of vacation/sick days?

now that i passed the 5 yr mark, i get 28 PTO days + company recognizes 8 holidays. I have 5 days carried over from last year so this year I have 33 PTO days

1) if they are working a holiday chances are already money > time

2) if they have maxed their vacation, an extra day is worthless.

80 hours vacation, 16 hours floating "holiday", no set limit for sick time. it really sucks starting a new job. my service time got reset when i started 4 years ago. i got a nice bump in pay, so i didn't negotiate more vacation. next july, i'll jump to 120 hours vacation.

i can bank 80 hours vacation to roll from year to year.
 
man am i glad I got into a salaried exempt position. I'm seeing all this talk of how many actual hours you get in vacation time and remember how crazy it was.

I'll clarify my earlier post, your 1st - 9th year here you get 15 days vacation, 10th - 19th year 20 days, and 20+ years you get 25

Sick and Personal days are unlimited, but there are unwritten rules to follow of course
 
Damn, after hearing what most of you have, I feel like I've got it pretty good. Been here 3.5 years, and I get 20 days vacation, 8 company holidays, 2 floating holidays, and unlimited sick time. So basically 30 total days off a year, and sick days are "free".

We can carry over 1 week of vacation from year to year, so you're pretty much required to take some time off now and then.
 
I get 24 vacation, 12 sick, 1 personal.

I can accrue 30 days vacation and then I lose em. I have been at those 30 days for 6 months now, so I burn 2 get 2. Doing the math, I could take every Friday off for a year and still have 2 vacation days left.
 
I get a total of 25 days off a year

10 vacation (upto 5 carry over every year)
4 personal
6 holidays (christmas, thankgiving, memorial day, labor day, 4th of july, new years day)
5 sick

Small company probably. Some companies start out that way and change when people start abusing it. My company doesn't have a specified limit, but if you started abusing it you probably wouldn't last long.
 
Only a few places I've worked give sick days, usually 1 a month when they do. Vacation is generally 1 week after you've worked there a year, 2 weeks after 3-5 years, etc.
 
New employees (5 years or less):

Vacation = 2 weeks (have to take it when you have up to 5 weeks)
Sick = 2 weeks (unlimit, you can keep them up as much as you have until you retire)
Holiday = 2 weeks

Even salaried exempt accrue vacation time in hours...for my 15 days a year I get 4.08 hours a pay period. I cannot cash out partial days as exempt though...hourly are allowed to take partial days, this has to do with exempt coming in for an hour or two and then claiming a half day whereas the hourly have each hour tracked.

I am surprised at the number here that get more than 10 days right off the bat, it's statistically against what's really being offered today.

I know you're in the banking/mortgage business, but do you really have "days" of work that are measured in hours? I may be "at" work for 8 hours, but if i get emailed or called I still have to "work" through that time, but I don't count "hours" at that time.

I took a day off back in October and the conficker worm patch came out the same day, I got an email to "please check on this, test, and deploy" and at the same time "don't worry about using a vacation day for doing this today" email

I guess "comp time" may be an issue, but I seriously believe I work much more than I take from what they give as "vacation days"

I mean hell, we're going to Disney World next week and I am bringing my work laptop as a "just in case" because I care about the business that much
 
I get 10 vacation days. 1 floater, 8 sick days per year. Plus the usual US holidays. I get 15 days vacation at 5 years which is 1 more year away.
