A couple years back an off duty police officer found a knapsack full with 1 million dollars (of course it's probably drug money). He turned it in and after 30 days 3 non-credible groups claimed it. It went to court and since no credible owner came to claim it........... the cop got the 1 million.

Cheers,
Aquaman

What if it were something just worth $50 to you but a personalized bracelet of some sort that obviously misses its owner ? Is that still how you feel ? Curious.

I would have to say that I would tell the manager of the establishment that I foung a diamond and leave my number. If someone came looking for it, to call me.

I could never keep it or sell it knowing that someone else was heart broken.

i think if someone had a diamond like that....one that was worth 10 grand, they can afford another one easy

u think donald trumph would be crushed? or his wife? just an example

If they had a diamond worth 10 grand I am pretty sure they would have it insured.

I don't know about being able to afford another one easy - I know someone who's girl was hard set on a particular stone that went $8k and he worked his ass off for it. But back to this situation - yeah on the side... I'm thinking... they probably have insurance on it... and be able to do the claim even if they did get the diamond back. There's so many ways either side COULD play this.

Gotta first verify authenticity, caret, and color for myself... so I can have the real owner prove it when they call...

Don't know if that will work. I have no idea about the carat, color, etc of my own diamond as it was my mother's in her engagement ring before I got it.

You could watch the lost and found in the newspaper classifieds to see if someone reports it lost.

You won't get any money unless its the Hope Diamond (FREAKING HUGE), call the establishment and report it so that if somone comes back with an "oh noe i lost a diamond," they can be pointed to you Diamond values are artifically pinned high and a stone you spend a grand on today is worth almost NOTHING tomorrow!

STONES BIG ENOUGH FOR INVESTMENT ARE SO HEAVY THAT IF THE OWNER LOST IT, THEYD KNOW ASAP

REALLY, TURN IT IN!

Is anyone else amazed by the various formatting here? The only thing we dont have is italics in there. Otherwise, we have normal, bold, underlined.... Wow. A plethora of fancy formatting.

I'd pick it up and duck for cover as Muldoon exclaims "oooh'd boy, da dia-mond!!" and tries to beat me senseless with his nightstick.

I found an AMEX gold card last night. I turned it in because it's probably not easy to do anything with the card. Now a diamond or cash...

For what 50 bucks? Thats deplorable. Get it appraised and get the serial number, then take it to the PD tell them you found it, and notify management of the fact that you found it and that its at the PD.

Because it could be from someone's engagement ring, and therefore its sentimental value to them is so far beyond any potential value it could have for me. Finding a couple grand on the street would be nice, but I have a heart.

I just got a ring for my fiancee not too long ago and I spent a fair bit of money on it (roughly 10k) and I'd be damned not to insure it!

For future reference, about how much does it cost to insure a ring?

Those are artificial diamonds, a real one would cost you quite a bit more.

The prices for these natural colored diamonds can easily top $100,000 per carat, with some reaching well over $1,000,000.

Artificial diamonds ARE "real" diamonds, they just aren't found in nature. I hope they catch on, I wouldn't mind seeing De Beers screwed over. I'm not sure if they've started making uncolored artificial diamonds yet, they started with the colored ones because there's so much more profit in them.

The only obstacle to artificial diamonds is people's preconceived notions that they're "not the same." Apparantly paying 10 times more for the same thing shows how much you really care though.

One downside to cheap diamonds would be that they'd probably become really popular with people who have terrible taste, and they'd lose some of their "special"ness

I hope someone is taking note of thieves in the thread so they can be added to the do not trade list in FS/FT. Lot of dishonest thieves in here.

mugs, i dont have insurance on my ring, but if i need any repairs done such as cleaning, if a prong comes loose, or if i lose the diamond and not the ring it's all covered. i think my bf paid around $50 for that.

Depends on the appraisal of the ring. I think it was $150/yr. on a $5k - $7k ring.
